We don't really need another intelligent design thread, but I could throw out as proof that evolution is not necessarily working the rude, inconsiderate, illiterate or just plain stupid individuals that were in the lines in front of me just a bit ago at the local well known grocery store.
What part of "Express Lane, 12 items or less" is so tough for people to read, understand and adhere to??
I stood in a long express lane, waiting behind a gentleman that very obviously was well within the rules. One hand-carried basket with perhaps 8 items total in it. But between us and the cashier's end of the line were 3, count them, 3 women. 2 black, 1 white, who couldn't seem to count to save their butts. First person in the line had somewhere around 2 dozen items on the belt getting rung up. No big deal, right? She probably was waved into that lane from one of the longer lines. B/S! There were very long lines everywhere in the place, especially in the non express line. Regardless though, the sign at the end of the lane clearly states 12 items or less. As does the sign over head. I understand if the cashier or one of the management types starts directing people to that line, but that didn't happen at all.
Next in line had at least 18 items (don't blame me for counting... I was bored as hell standing there having my two boxes of frozen french bread pizza thawing on me). Again, no big deal.
Woman #3 in the line was the one that sort of got my goat. She chatted it up with the casheir mentioning that she had done the same job before at another major grocery store chain. WHAT?!?!?! If she had, then damnit, she should certainly have been capable of counting, and knowing she was standing in the line with 18 items herself.
What is it that makes some idiots think they can set their own rules in these ways. Never mind everyone else that is minding the rules, helping to get through the lines as quickly as possible to get their business done and let others do the same. Some people are just too good for rules. Much like habitual speeders that think the speed limits apply to all but them (admittedly, I can found guilty as charged of that much of the time, but that is a different story). It seems that some people just don't friggin' care about anyone or anything else. Me, me, me.
Yup, the old rules that only the best survive have got to be wrong, and this is proof positive. It's not the best that survives, it's the rudest, stupidest, luckiest. The ones that were given passes in schools when it came to simple, every day business mathematics. 1 + 1, +1, +1 and many more does not equal 12. Hell, more than a simple basket full of stuff does not equal 12 (or fewer) in most cases.
I'd love to see these grocery stores implement rules that charge fines for each additional item over the express lane limit. Start at $1 for the first item, $2 for the second over, $3 for the third, and keeping working the way up. Perhaps then the inconsiderate individuals would learn their lessons, or at least would be forced to pay some heed to what they are doing.
In lieu of that, I propose that we make killing people that take too many items through the express lanes a misdemeanor offense. {big wide evil grin} In many places, I would think the jury of peers would be more than happy to see the victim get their just rewards.
