Bush policies allow NYC to create record surplus

Surely this must be credited to Pres. Bush, right?

Hey, if everything that goes wrong in the country can be attributed to some screwed up policy or implementation by President Bush, then he also most certainly deserves credit when something goes better than expected.

Considering that President Bush is blamed for everything, this must be something that was in some way his fault also.

2006 Budget: Biggest Surplus In NYC History

(1010 WINS) (NEW YORK) Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed a $49.7 billion budget on Thursday and said the city's economy is healthy enough to make New Yorkers grin, but maybe not smile.
The budget for the next fiscal year is balanced -- in part with a $3.2 billion surplus from this year, the largest in city history, due to significantly higher tax revenues. Still, the mayor predicted a deficit of $4.5 billion for 2007 and $4.2 billion after that.
"We have a reason to have a grin on our face -- a big smile, maybe not, but a grin on our face -- because we have made the tough decisions and, in retrospect, I think it's fair to say that we've made the right decisions," he said.
As he has repeatedly throughout his term since taking office in 2002, he blamed most of the troubles for future deficits on expenses out of the city's control, like pensions, debt service, fringe benefits and Medicaid.

Remember now folks, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. The Bush bashers that want to blame President Bush's fiscal policies for all that ails our economy and future economies will of course ignore the thought that the policies of the President may in some way be tied to the extra income that was flowing into the NYC coffers.

Certainly, as part of the article points out, there will be problems for the NYC economy in the future, as there will be for the U.S. economy, but hopefully you'll get the main point of my article here -- blaming Bush for these problems, or crediting him for the successes is pretty much equally ignorant.

The President of the United States' policies have little to no actual impact in the economy. He may push for tax cuts, which must be enacted by Congress. He may also push for certain spending goals, which also must be passed by Congress. But in the end, those cuts are no more directly attributable to the President than are the actual spending limits that Congress passes.

The economy in this country is a very complex animal, which is impacted upon by many different factors, including consumer spending, business spending, individual savings, corporate saving and investment, Fed policy and more.

Any idiot that goes around continually crying that it's all Bush's fault, or that Bush's policies are destroying the U.S. -- either in the economy or otherwise -- is nothing more than an attention seeking negative nelly. Hopefully most people will see them for that and not give them the ego boost they are searching for.
