Why Blog If You Don't Want Responses?

We've all seen it, someone posts a blog on some topic that really gets people going. It either rouses some passionate response, or some insult, or sometimes it's simple disagreement. This is actually what makes JU so much fun at times, getting feedback (both positive and negative) on what you write. Why then, are there people who post about something, and then get mad over/delete any comments with which they don't agree?

You post something to a publicly accessable site, you leave comments enabled, yet you still claim that people shouldn't post responses contrary to your view or opinion? If you want to have your own personal cheering section, go to a site that is dominated by those who share your ideas. Post here, where there are a vast number of people who will likely disagree with you (regardless of your opinion) and you're going to get some sort of response. If you don't want a response, then what the heck are you doing blogging? Just open up word, type your heart out and then save it to your hard drive.

Now, I understand deleting nasty, vulgar, trolling comments that are unrelated to the topic, that's fine. I do that myself as I won't tolerate that sort of behavior. But if it's on-topic, in a civil tone, even if I don't agree with it, I welcome the comment nonetheless.

If you don't want feedback, either disable comments or blog elsewhere.

Oh, and don't get me started on people who delete articles

I would if I could remember exactly what I wrote. I don't save my comments or articles to my hard drive so it wouldn't quite match up.

I try to not let the behavior of other bloggers get to me, but it's this sort of behavior that always manages to drive me nuts.

Wow, two rant posts on the same topic in one morning!!

For me, I don't mind any registered, active blogger's replies on my blog. I don't really appreciate swearing, but I'll put up with almost any amount of personal shot (especially if it is well thought out, shows some originality, or just plain makes me laugh!).

I think everyone who reads my blog knows how I feel about "anonymous" "Snipers" and the like. Of course, that doesn't include friends and members of other blogsites who I have invited into "my house". For any of the snipers in the woodline and snakes in the grass, I take it on a reply by reply basis to decide whether they stay, or all evidence of their presence gets zapped into the dark matter of cyberspace!! ;~D

Yeah, I wasn't talking about the anonymous trolls really. I was talking about legitimate responses to an article from registered users. I hate the anon flamers as much as anyone does, and I've deleted them on occassion.

Oh, and LW and I are both posting in response to the same thread

I understand what you are saying...I have gotten a few negative comments on posts...but that comes with the territory. If I decide to post a blog up for everyone to see, and also post it in forums, well, what else do I expect...I leave myself open to comments and opinions from others...I don't mind differing thoughts as long as they have a purpose (as opposed to some whacked out comment coming out of nowhere).

I totally agree with you Zoomba.  I have deleted a few comments, but only because they were so far off topic and a rant on their own, I did not want to let them hi-jack my blog.

As for the rest, I let them stand.  Either they make a good point, or they are examples of why not to use inhalants.

And like I had said before, if you complain about someone deleting your comments, you shouldn't be blacklisting others. Of course to delete is to sweep clean. To blacklist is to close your ignorant mind.

Yet every time I consider removing RH from my blacklist, I see comments like the one above, or a new article by him carrying on about the fact that I blacklisted him for a bit. ( 2 so far, plus he mentions it anywhere he can finagle a way to work it into the discussion.)


I gave up on him long ago. He never posted on topic and it was always a diatribe on something completely different. I dont mind a diatribe against or for my position, but I will not allow my articles to get hijacked.

I have seen nothing that would indicate that I should un-Black list him. I never black listed Wise Fawn, Dabe or Myrrander. And I have nothing in common with those clowns.

Well Whip you can feel free to continue your thing. That's fine by me. But when you make a whiny grumpy thread about someone deleting your comments, while blacklisting others, it shows you are eith two-faced, or hypocritical, or confused, or all of the above. And what's this self-ego thing? I responded to your post in another thread since you don't allow my opinion on your controlled blog. But I didn't think it was 'emotions running high' for a moment. That's a petty high-school mentality. I didn't figure you'd be in that attitude line.
And Drguy....*laughs* Hijacked thread = don't like what I had to say. Completely different you said, with no example provided. How different? You were arguing about daylight saving time and I was challenging you on Iraq? Please tell me how and when I completely changed the subject of one of your threads. I think you just don't like what I have to say so you claim a hijacking, which is kind of typical. Open your mind to possibilities while staying focused on what's really being said.

Reiki, I'll reiterate what was said on your own post about this matter.

Blacklisting is removing an individual who you regularly feel does not contribute to your articles.

Deleting Comments is selectively removing feedback that does not jive with what you want to have said about your article.

One is preventing someone from entering the conversation, the other is deciding what they're allowed to say, deleting anything you don't agree with. There is a distinct difference.

Also, take your grievance with DrGuy and LW elsewhere please.
