It's All About The Voice

When I was a young girl, I thought that I was in love with a cartoon character named Mark, from Battle of the Planets. I mean, I knew it was a cartoon, but I also knew that real people voiced these superheroes. I suppose I figured, hell, if they picked out a guy to speak the role of a teen Captain who saved the world on a daily basis, the guy that voiced him had to have a little something in common with the character he played. How wrong I was. Casey Kasem was my first jolt in the reality of cartoon voice casting.

As an adult, I'm surprised at how many men hit on women at work. They can't see us. They have no idea how we look, just how we sound. Don't get me wrong, I've heard some pretty sexy male voices, but I've never contemplated giving out my number. And forget about asking some guy for his. I mean, really. How hard up do ya have to be? And the other question is this: why is it just men who do this? I've got a lot of guy friends who work at the same place and I've asked them before if they've ever had the same stuff happen, and they've all said 'no'. Does it mean that women callers are shyer than the men who call in? Or are they just not as desperate?

Ah NickyG, the very thing happened to me.

I received a complaint phone call from one of our clients at work, and by the end of the call, I had her giggling, and she actually remarked how pleasant (read - sexy) my phone manner was with a flirtatious giggle - i told her i knew. A lot of masculinity can be portraid over the phone... however, I knew from one of my onsite staff that she wasn't my type, so nothing became of it...

you are right though, for every time that has happened to me, it's a running joke with my colleague when we end a phone call to remark 'she wants me'

Perhaps if the woman is bold enough and really interested they might do the same thing. Men usually seem to do stuff like that. They're those that just always are on the prowl!

I get the voice complement all the time. Especially when my "accent" slips through sometimes.

Interesting blog Nic.

It is amazing just how much power a voice can have. I have never thought about trying to get someone's number based solely on their voice, but I can see think of a few times I have heard very sexy voices and you have a hard time forgetting.
