Browser Crashing HELP!

Do YOU think it's a virus?

Ok, here's the situation...
Example: I go to download.com. Then I do a search for "Ad Nuker". When I get to the results page and click on any of the links to go to the next page for the first selection that is listed it immediatly closes my browser and I hear an explosion sound. (Either Netscape 7.2 OR IE6 with all updates. Seconds after the browser crashes I get a "lovesan" attack notice from my firewall.
This has happened at maybe 5 links outta 5,000. Anyone have a clue as to what this is? Is it a fault of the sites link or is it something on my computer? I personally think this is a conspiracy to keep me from downloading crap .

Sounds like you have a bug. It would be a good idea to run a virus scan as well as a spyware scan with Adaware and spybot.

Lovesan is McAfees name for the W32.Blaster.Worm

I think your conspiracy theory was right. You should probably try and avoid those kind of sites, or get some good protection for your system. Both Mcafee and Norton are known for allowing you to get a bug, and then not be able to get rid of it. AVG7 by Grisoft will warn you about a malicious website before you can enter and get a bug. I also suggest getting a good firewall like Zone Alarm, and also some good anti-spyware progs. like Adaware AND Spybot. If we go to bad web sites, we get bad things! And most "free downloads" are not really free. Never surf the net without a condom!

aint that the sorry truth. dont put too much faith in adaware tho

i like the sygate firewall because it wont let anything on your system or lan transfer outbound packets without asking first and, in the process, it points out the culprit.

The best solution I have found to date is the Microsoft AntiSpyware.

I had several clients who were experiencing the same as you as well as not evenbeing able to connect to web page even though they were online and active. I immediately recognized this as a form of malware or such, ran the standard programs to catch the nasty buggers with no success.

I had already installed the AntiSpyware on all of my systems with great results and thought I would take a chance before wiping the harddrives. It worked like a charm cleaned all the files including the Restore Point Files so that the culprit would not be reinstalled on the system at a later date. Clients are now able to connect and are protected from future attacks.

I highly recommend that you give it a try

That is very disturbing. Thanks for the link. I have the purchased version of AdAware, and will keep using it. I'm just more glad than ever I also have spybot and Pest patrol. They will pick up the slack. Makes you wonder though, if Lava soft is now inbed with the makers of the scumware.

clwoods - I am sorry but I have to agree. Adaware, Spybot and Pest Control do not do a good job of catching all the buggers now on the net. I ran those progams as I have always thought highly of them and was very surprised to discover that the Microsoft AntiSpyware caught several entries and files on my systems that the aforementioned programs failed to even recognize as being there.

I only run the Microsoft AntiSpyware now and I am happy to say it catches the stuff immeditately and I have been spyware free on all of my systems since Jan of this year.

my 2 cents and professional experience....

clwoods - I am sorry

I too like the new MS anti-spyware, And use it. It has not however detected a bug on my system yet. I have been bug and virus free for years. Not since the old days of windows 98, have I had a bug. Of course I also have a great virus and firewall prog, and I don't download questionable software or visit questionable sites. I think that is a pretty good track record.

I checked out your link little whip, and it sounds almost EXACTLY like what I was goin through. Thanks for the heads up. I have used the tool and we'll see what happens. So far so good. Thanks a TON. I HATE backin everything up and you know... Saved me about two days crap work!

Btw.. I don't really go to questionable sites either. The only thing I can think of is one of the kids are goin somewhere they shouldn't. So I don't let them on here unless we're in the room. Ever since no problems...hmmmmm

Implies at least 2 adults, based on statement. Are you sure it's one of the kids and not that since the kids are being watched on the computer, they are no longer a viable excuse?

I have to wonder, I have a CJ degree.

yeha the tool worked... But NOW it's at it again... For the fifth time. The only constant is first, yahoo crashes when rt clicked. And I think it happens because of launch, because every time my daughter uses launch this crap starts. Yahoo is a killer! lol

Hmmmm... Weird... It still does it. I KNOW theres nothing on my machine, but every once in awhile I click to go to a certain page or another, and pop! There closes the browser. The only thing I can think of is some kinda conflict somewhere. But I can't figure it out for the life of me. I have reformatted, and just about everything else you could think of. Still does it. It's rare, but as far as I know I'm only visiting regular everyday sites. Weird!
