I think i've already mentioned this in someone's thread, but i've decided i'd make my very own article about it.
It’s about the actual worldwide public opinion on the American actions in Iraq lately. It seems every body is criticizing the States about all their decisions. Everyone wants a piece of the USA. Countries that were in deep shit once and that seeked for their help and got it no questions asked, are now being all snob, and saying that the methods used are not politically correct or whatever.
But these kinds of actions are what saved their ass in the second world war. A lot of people seem to have forgotten that.
My Dad told me he’d never forget what the United States did and sacrificed in the Pacific to keep the Japanese away. If it wasn’t for their troops we’d probably be some communist little country under a dictatorial leadership where freedom of speech is forbidden.
Americans had bases in Port Vila and Santo that still remind us of their actions here. In Santo for instance divers are fond of the famous wreck of the President Coolidge (a luxury passenger liner that sank in the early 40’s after hitting a mine) which has now become the most popular and accessible diving site in the Pacific. There are crashed planes in our luxurious bushes that are rotting away, and probably soon we’ll forget this times as well…
And our very own Ambae (the island where I’m from) is believed to have inspired Michener’s Tales of the South Pacific.
They were here and fought for us. They started developing this rugged place and brought a new technology and a new conception of life and freedom to a countries that were following the typical colonial system.
Anyway, all this to say that a lot of people from another generation still remember what happened in the past and will always be grateful to the States.
