Belfast Telegraph - Comics mourn legend Allen: Shock as funnyman dies at 68
Just a quick entry whilst I was searching through Google's Beta News service , although I must admit I had heard the sad news on TV last night.
I remember, as a young lad, trying my hardest to be allowed to stay up and watch Dave Allen (amongst others like Monty Python, Not the Nine O' clock news and the like).
Even as a youngster, his irreverent comedy made me laugh (even if some of the more "theological" humour may passed me by at the time). The way he would sit, leaning on the tray at the side of his tall stool, cigarette in one hand, glass of Whisky in the other (definitely wouldn't be allowed now) .
I always remembered the missing finger on his hand. isn't it odd what you remember when you are a kid. As I grew older, I began to understand the "blunt subtlety" of his humour . He was the first "alternative" comic that I knew and cared for.
It was a pity his style was deemed "Non - PC", and he fade away from our screens.
I, for one, will not forget him. God Bless you.
