Here We Go Again: Gitmo

So It's Not 'Torture'. IT Is Still Repulsive....

You know, you may not agree with me on this point, but doesn't it seem that we're trying everything, moral, degrading or not, to get these people to talk? What is wrong with us? Do we acutally sincerely believe that because these people did a bad thing to us first, we're legitimately able to toy with them, violate their religious taboos as a scare tactic so we can loosen their lips?

And since it's not covered by the Geneva Conventions (which never really stopped us before now), it's all ok. Is this a game of let's get all the information from these people as much as we can? I feel morally indignant by this personally, considering I've also published articles where detainees had ended up in Gitmo and shouldn't have been there in the first place. It's almost like the military age of investigators have been installed to find out information our intelligence sources should already have. And before I hear the inane arguments of 'what's good for the goose is good for the gander,' and 'oh...so you're saying police shouldn't use 'good cop/bad cop and verbal intimidation,' first off, since when did we determine American morality and honor on what a bunch of Muslim extremists did to us? The second is so ludicrous I end up smirking. There's a difference between rubbing ink on someone's face and declaring it blood, and threatening to rape a prisoner, then verbal intimidation and using minor psychology to get them to talk.

I don't know exactly what to believe anymore of what's ok and not. When a Marine general says in public that it is, "fun to shoot some people," I idly wonder about the characteristics of this nation and where it is headed. Is this justice, or is it revenge?

I wish I could tell you where one begins and another ends.

Sol, I already wrote about this.  I find it highly amusing and not repulsive or torture.  if that is the state of the US torture, the only end (other than obtaining some info) is that there will be a lot of volunteers to the Al Quada that only want to get caught!

Humane as in you're not physically hurting anyone? Well, you do get points for correctness there. I'm a little bit more PC (or can be) in this case...personally, it's not even the clothes that I've got an issue with, it's the whole fake blood thing, threatening to be raped, etc. I think with all the studies, etc, that people do on psychology, we wouldn't have to resort to essentally mucking up anyone's religious beliefs for them. And what's amusing to one person is replusive to the next.

I would enjoy the article for the contrast. And despite the fact we often go at loggerheads with each other, at least you're one of the one who reads and reacts to my stuff.

Where I disagree with you is in thge religious thing. Any religion that advocates killing anyone not of your thought, is not a true religion and so pig blood (I know it was not) or naked women are not going to hurt their psyche. Just maybe show them they are wrong and need to get a life, so to speak.

I would do the same if I was alive during the crusades or at any time that the Church decided to take the war into their own hands.

I have no sympathy or compassion for them when this is the worst they get.
