Ok, so tell me why college feels like such a complete waste of time. There are those who argue that just the fact that I am having these thoughts means I shouldn't be here in the first place. I am sure, at one point, college was only a place for those who wanted to persue further academic acheivement, but lets face it, 90 percent of us are going because someone told us we needed a peice of paper. America is a wonderful place, but damn, who are we kidding, we are fooling ourselves and wasting our precious time and money on "higher education". We have put a considerable ammount of emphasis on the MEANS and gradually moving away from the notion that there is more than one way to get to the ENDS.
Steps to life:
1. do well in 6th grade math, or you will not get into advanced math in 7th grade, then 8th, 9th, yada yada.... you fail now, you fail forever. *
2. get straight A's and score high on your SAT because you will fail at life if you don't do well on these.
3. Get in to college (permitting you did well on #2) and pay out the ass to do whatever the hell you want for 4 years minimum.
4. Get a damn peice of paper that says you are an "expert" at something. This paper now means you are no longer, nor ever will be a failure (note the sarcasm)
5. Get a job that you love and work there indefinatley to pay your bills on time.
5 steps... thats it fellas now... GO GET 'EM. Might I add, that "happiness", "fun" or "producvitiy" was NOT included in these steps.
So get started on wasting your life away to the standards of the greatest institution of the world... America.
Lesson of the week: Changing the entire world is impossible. But changing YOUR world is easy. One person usually encounters about 50-100 people on a regular basis throughout their lifetime. If you could change the minds of those 50-100 people that know you (and i mean KNOW you) then you have changed YOUR world. So if you arent happy with how the world is, Change YOUR world first, then bitch about the rest of the world not being like yours.
Quote of the week: Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains - Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778)
Movie of the week: Bowling for Columbine- you don't have to agree with it, but it will make you think about America. ( * item #1, i stole from this movie)
Song of the week: I feel Home- O.A.R.
P.S. Good seeing some of you Stafford kids this weekend.
