Get Your Tree Off My Lawn

Some people's children...

So, yesterday was garbage day and in addition to towing the can out to the curb, I also hauled the Christmas tree out there, too. I had the vain hope that the garbage men would actually get out of their truck and throw my tree into the back. Nope. Apparently, they don't do that sort of thing around here. Mechanical arm grabs can, empties can into truck, returns can to curb, drives off, and repeat. But the three guys stay inside the truck (if this is the way they do it now, maybe we can fire one or two of the guys?).

I didn't worry too much, though. I know every year there is a tree pickup day or two in January and that sooner or later, someone will come by and pick it up. Along with all the others in the neighborhood. So, when I went in to work yesterday morning, I just left the tree sitting there on the grass next to the street. No problem.

When I came home from work last night, there was a second tree on my lawn. I was PISSED! REALLY PISSED! Who the flock put their GD tree on my lawn? I know it wasn't the Marine that is in the other unit in my building. He and his family just moved in, post-Christmas. That means that the dirtbag across the street or next door drug their tree all the way over to my lawn (the way our buildings are spaced makes this NOT an insignificant walk) and dumped it there. There is no sign on my lawn saying central tree collection point. I can promise you that. It would be different if someone had the courtesy to come over, ring the doorbell, and ask if they could throw their tree with mine. But, no, I get some anonymous jackass dropping their tree on my lawn for however long it takes to get it picked up.

I realize that this is really small potatoes in the grand scheme of life and a trivial thing to be mad about. But, I really don't care. It pisses me off! I really wish I knew who did it. I may go knocking on doors this evening.

I don't think it's trivial at all.  It's YOUR lawn, you work at maintaining it.  For someone else to dump their garbage on your lawn (which is what this basically amounts to) is disrespectful and really quite rude. 

I'd be pissed off too.  Like I said, it's a lack of respect...and if they're dumping trees on your lawn while you're there, what on earth would they do if you were gone on vacation?

I agree with all of the above. That neighbor is rude, arrogant, sneaky, and maybe even dangerous. Now, how is your blood pressure, the acid level in your stomach, the toxic effects of your righteous anger? Can you change the situation? If not , I would humbly suggest that you just quiet down so that you don't let your neighbor's vulgarity ruin your health too. That would be a double whammy. I know that by now you have calmed down because your gentle philosophy evident in so many of your blog indicates this to me. Peace be with you.

I had a similar situation with my neighbor. He was having his roof reshingled. The roofers he hired decided, as they were tearing off the old shingles, to throw them down into my back yard. I hit the roof!!

Started calling them every nasty name under the sun. Called their office and complained and told them I was hiring a bulk-lift, at their expense, and when it arrived I stood outside and made the crew pick up every shingle, nail, and shred of tar paper until my yard was spotless. (actually, it ended up being cleaner than when this all began. )

You can't let people pull this crap on you. Have the mess carted away and present your neighbor with the bill.

^Um, anyway...

Chip, I confess, I swam my tree all the way over to where you live and dragged it up to your house and dropped it there. It's just such a damn pain to haul it to the dump.

psssst......not that i'm saying anything mind ya, but it's biodegradable, and the back part of ft. ord is such a big place....................nod nod, wink wink tip of the head tip of the head (enter old monty python reference here............)
