Hypocritical Senators and Congress people - signatures, ha!

Recently I posted the following blog entry: Dress code wearing thin on air marshals, which was posted at about the same time that I fired off a complaint to my (unfortunately) duly elected Senators and Congress People -- I say unfortunately because I'm a captive of a "blue state" electorate even though we have a very sizable "red state" contingent (of which I am typically part of).

I sent my complaint very clearly and concisely, and I made use of the web sites for my Senators (Mikulski and Sarbanes) to the best of the ability of the web sites in a way that I was hoping would get the issue addressed in a timely manner.

In both cases, the web sites offer pre-selected categories -- much like the JoeUser "topic" list (which I wish would allow us to select more than one topic for articles in many cases) -- and not a simple fill in the blank "subject" type entry.

I selected "Transportation" or "Security" or the closest categories I could select, and sent a rant that looked like much like what is seen in the original article referenced earlier here.

What I got back from Sen. Sarbanes' office has me thinking that Sen. Sarbanes, and the rest of the clowns in the Senate and House of Represenatives has me convinced that these pol's are complete hypocrites on the "Rummy used an auto-pen to sign the letters of condolence" issue.

Please see the subject line area that I highlighted, and then please tell my why I shouldn't call Sen. Paul Sarbanes and/or his staff a bunch of hypocrites when/if they are complaining about Sec'ty Rumsfeld.

Informational note: the reply above did generate a polite, while still hostile, response that re-directed Sen. Sarbanes staff to address the original issue that I was complaining about. I still hope that issue is resolved in a manner that makes sense for the security of our nation's airline passengers (which would begin by firing the knuckleheaded director of the FAMs).

In anycase, thanks for letting me vent and yet again demonstrate the hypocrisy of our political leaders.

No Senator is going to deny (or at least they shouldn't) that they use form letters and autopens on occassion--they simply would be able to do little else than respond to letters if that wasn't the case. Hopefully, most of them are a little more accurate in matching the form language with the intent of the actual email.

That said...there is a difference between sending a form letter to a constituent regarding a political opinion and sending an autopenned condolence letter to a soldiers family when you are the Secretary of Defense. Most Senators will "pull" certain letters to be hand signed--Rumsfeld should have been doing this for the condolence letters.
