Your thoughts on Marijuana

Hey,

I have tried having this conversion on other forums but it always gets out of hand with people flaming eachother. I just want to have a conversation about the subject and hear peoples thoughts on it and maybe clear some rumors about it up. There are many people who think it's bad and that it's very bad for your lungs. Me being from Canada I smoke it regularly so I don't have a problem with it. The only factor I can see is that it is bad for the lungs as is any smoke to inhale. I was thinking for medical reasons, if they extracted the THC from inside the plant and simply put it in canisters and distrubute it to patients much like anesthesia. That way there is no lung damage from inhaling the smoke and the patients can be given certian dosages to scale rather than having to smoke up.

ok, you sound like you want to use logic. You are correct that you should not listen to someone just because they are older. But do you agree that someone twice your age has had close to twice the experiences? Wouldn't you agree that someone twice your age has had about twice as many discusssions and has seen about twice as many incidents; has had about two times the chances of seeing people in the hospital, two times the chance of seeing births and deaths. If they party, there is a pretty good chance that they have been to twice the number of parties? Don't you agree that a good percentage of people that are twice your age know at least a little bit more about life than you? If you agree to that (and I hope you do), and 80 to 90% of those people "say" that they believe that there are at least some negative results of smoking pot, isn't there a good chance that there is some truth to it? If there is some truth to it, shouldn't you act on it? It is often the case that people do not act on what they know to be true, though. So let me ask you: Do you smoke pot in spite of the negative consequences, or do you not believe these people that say there are negative consequences, or do you think that the positive mind altering affects outweigh the negative? You say that you are only presenting your opinion but your opinion must be based on something. Right? A smart guy like you wouldn't do something just because, right? If you want to smoke pot and claim your right to do so, that is one thing, but don't try to use reason to convince people that there are no adverse ramifications. People that are older than me generally know more than me. And the more you learn, the more you realize how much you don't know.

There is no such thing as "Addiction". Let's say you eat vanilla ice cream all the time. You're not addicted, you just like it. Ok, now some fool decides you can have a good time with this, so he makes it illeagel. Pot was made illeagel because they couldn't find a way to catch Al Copone, so when alcohol was made illeagel, pot fell into the same catagory, and therefore became illeagel. Doctor's, Poloticians, and most people said they didn't see anything wrong with pot, but it got caught in the red tape. If pot was leagelized, the prisons and jails would almost be empty. I can't believe you can go to jail for smoking a joint. Think about it people. Peace. Hippie

I promise, this is my last comment. When I started smoking pot, a nickle bag was $5. A quarter pound was $40. Also, it was cannibus sativa. What people smoke now is called cannibus inigo. Cannibus indigo will get you stoned, sleepy, and give you the munchies, but it does not get you high. I remember smoking Colombian Gold and laughing at everything. Panama Red was a great high. Redbud was killer. The thing about it is, there is no actual, real pot out there. Now it's skunk, and hydrophonic, or something like that, and people sell it for $500 an ounce. Damn I miss the '60's. Hippie, I'm with you, I miss the 60's....... Woodstock, close to half a million people together for days and no violence, some of the greatest bands on stage.... oh the nostalgia!!
Now people try to kill each other over a basketball game!! I can only imagine what would happen if they tried to have that many people together in one place today.... they'd run out of body bags!!Oh well, at least we have the memories of a more pleasant time. Cheers to the 60s!!

Just made some whole wheat pasta with olive oil, 4 cloves of garlic, 1/2 sweet onion, a bit of salt and a boat load of parmesian cheese. Anyone hungry? I'm high on that aroma, right now.

Now Hippie, this is UTTERLY wrong. There IS such a thing as addiction, and there's a certain condition that happens when people try to believe it's not happening...it's called denial.

I guess I'll have to go again. I had a Doctor tell me that it was harder to get off Xanax than Heroin. I've known Heroin addicts, and if the sun was shining as bright as it could outside, and a Heroin addict told me the sun was shining, I would'nt believe him. Let me also refrase something about addiction. If you have whatever drug you're "addicted" to no problem. It's when people try to take it away. That's the problem. Like I said before, legalize it, and let the idiot's OD. Then the rest of us could just enjoy it. Peace. Hippie

Also, like I said, I've done every drug there is, and I just got tired of it and quit. No rehab, no anything, I just quit. I would do some acid, and say, okay, I'm high as hell what am I going to do now. So I QUIT.

British Lung Foundation reported in 2002:

The amount of smoke taken into the lungs is two thirds larger if cannabis is being smoked. The smoke is also taken one third deeper into the lungs - and that smoke is held an average of four times longer before being exhaled.

"You inhale deeper and hold your breath with the smoke for longer before exhaling. This results in more poisonous carbon dioxide and tar entering into the lungs," says Helena Shovelton, BLF's chief executive.

Other points in the report include:

• Tar from cannabis cigarettes contains up to 50 per cent higher concentrations of carcinogens benzathracenes and benzpyrenes than tobacco smoke

• THC, the primary psychoactive ingredient of cannabis, decreases the function of immune system cells that help protect the lungs from infection

• The average cannabis cigarette smoked in the 1960s contained about 10 milligrams of tetrahydrocanabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive ingredient. Today, it may contain 150 mg.

"This means that the modern cannabis smoker may be exposed to greater doses of THC than in the 1960s or 1970s," says the report. "This in turn means that studies investigating the long-term effects of smoking cannabis have to be interpreted cautiously."

Finally, about toking and driving: In a 1990 report, the National Transportation Safety Board studied 182 fatal truck accidents. It found that just as many of the accidents were caused by drivers using marijuana as were caused by alcohol -- 12.5 percent in each case.

Lots of opinions here - hope that those paying attention will differentiate between opinions and facts. The American Medical Association reports that there are at least two medical conditions (or disorders) associated with cannabis use - cannabis abuse and cannabis dependence. Both disorders involve impairment of some sort - abuse being the lesser of the two.

I agree that some of the addiction is "in your head", hence the term psychological addiction. Isn't that still a problem? Aren't most psychological disorders "in your head"?

Oh....by the way, a work colleague of my wife had a family member who suffered from Marijuana-induced schitzophrenia [a documented medical effect] and subsequently committed suicide.

Ain't so sweet and innocent at all.

as i said before, where are the parents? a 16 or 17 year old kid admits to getting high on grass and mom and dad aren't aware. it's sad, indeed. as for smoking grass not impairing a driver, wake up!! explain that to my aunt and uncle who lost a son to a driver impaired from smoking grass. again, as i said before, it's a bad idea to allow a thread's originator to be able to delete posts he or she seems to think are not beneficial to his or her arguement. if the thread is solely on JU, that's fine to a degree but if the thread is also seen on WC, only a WC admin should have the authority to edit or remove posts. i'm sure this post will be removed since it's contrary to grenier's side of the fence. i'll just post it again later tonight.

I think we need to remember that someone is still at that age where they know everything and don't need anyone elses' help or opinions (at least, not if *said* opinion doesn't match theirs.)

Fortunately, I was able to grow up and am now at an age where I know I don't know half of what I really need to know... But I am still learning.

byron, i couldn't agree more. i wish i could know half as much at 47 as i thought i did at 16 or 17. hoipefully, this kid will grow up and be a productive member of society. this thread really aggravates me, though. i deal with kids his age every day of the week since i run a local youth program. part of my job is to attempt everything i can to keep kids off of drugs. when i see threads such as this, it's very disheartening, to say the least. i know of one young man who had a full-ride atheltic scholarship to a division 1 university taken away from him due to his inability to stay clear of marijuana. the drug can ruin a person's life in more ways than one

i dont mind the weed smoke from freinds that smoke it when im around .. i dont smoke it ;x but i like the 2nd hand smoke

.. besides the occassional munchies people develop its a waste of money =D but profitable if sold ... if the government some how came to legalizing this and formed a business into it we prob wont have budget cuts someplaces =x

You deleted posts which were NOT personal attack. They just painted you in a correct light.

I removed your comment disparaging Mexicans for the reason it is against site policy.

You, on the other hand deleted my post stating that I had done so, purely through embarrassment, I'm sure.

If you cannot be mature and responsibly with your 'modification' of reality as it pertains to this thread here on Wincustomize.com then the entire thread will be removed as its truth and continuity is a farce.

There is a distinct difference between moderation for abuse and abuse of moderation.

When a site's Administrator is being emailed with 'WTF' regarding the corruption and abuse of a thread's 'editing' then you know you have got it severely wrong.

I think its a great way to relive stress. As far as health goes.. its a hell of alot better than cigaretts are for you (nicotene). But everyone has different reactions to it. But then again anything done in excess can be harmful and cause problems. As far as driving goes, tolerance is everything, if you are a person who smokes habitually you will have no problem, but if your an amateur than just stay home because you are putting other people at risk by seeing if you can drive. Medicinal properties include:

Restoring chemotherepy patients appetites
Easing pain of glaucoma
Relief from arthritis etc...

If that does not change your viewpoint, think of the real drugs that create an addiction i.e. crystal meth and the things that does to your body as compared to marijuana

all i said in my last post was that "i agree with jafo about this thread being nothing more than a points race, and that im done with this thread" and it got removed .......there was no attack on his person....i used no profanity.. but since it "questiond the threads motives" it was removed.

when he posted this thread and admitted to smokeing up and driving under the influence, he placed his personal life out for display. then he asked for opinions .. he has recieved opinions on his behavior.. many have been removed because they were "directed at him personally"...DUH.... STEVE when you use a blog to admit to bad behavior then request opinions, expect peeps to comment on YOUR behavior.. you put the info out there for all to see ...

funny u should ask my friend because i have been smoking pot here in ny since i was about 14,i'm now 50 and smoke every night,it helps me sleep,and if i don't have it i have a restless night,i guess u or someone else would call that (hooked),which is true because my wife says i'm crabby when i don't have it,besides costing me $60 a week for an eight,i'll smoke about two joints after work,and go to bed at 9:00p.m to 11:00p.m.,hope this helps!!!!

This is one of the issues that doesn't work for me, Its not the first time I have read of the drug being used as a response to stress before. At this point it isn't simply recreational is it, it is self-medicating in its purest sense. It is being used to avoid having to feel, think and create coping strategies, very often leading to a maintaining of the status quo and ergo the stress, and would appear to be consistent with substance abuse thinking. This is just the sort of behaviour that once learned can, when a crisis hits that outweighs the relief that cannabis offers, lead to abuse of other substances.

It seems that at best if we take the figure that the pro-pot campaigners often quote - which is that 10% of users will develop a psychological addiction then whilst I have some sympathy with those who have genuine medical need and would support them - I cannot think that a Government would in all conscience actively seek to encourage, through validation, the above process of disengaging from oneself and ones environment through such a process of self medication.

Yes I know other drugs exist already that are legal - but I could say that ecstacy doesn't kill as many people as cigarettes or alcohol etc etc. It doesn't in itself justify adding another to the list - which would then be quoted by the next group of campaigners who will in turn feel aggrieved that there drug of choice hasn't been legitimised.

Ultimately, I have to listen to those who say they have tried it and found themselves becoming less than they were - it is not something I would encourage my politicians to enable.

There has been a lot of crap I have had to deal with in this thread the past few days. A lot of posts got deleted. I don't care who posted them, Citizens, Admins, anyone. You post about a specific person and being rude it WILL be deleted. This is going to be a friendly thread so quit posting rude comments.

I still want to have this conversation just hopefully people will get their heads straight and stay on the topic and not about each other. Specifically me, because this site and it's staff seem to have an obsession over me.

There are many things that are good about marijuana and there are many bad things. If there wasn't an equal balence of the 2 we wouldn't be dealing with this issue today and for these past few years. It has always been around but it has started to work its way up higher to becoming legalized. (At least in Canada) I agree that at some times I wish that I had never started smoking. But there are also many times I wish that I didn't wake up in the morning. Thats the way it is with anything. I agree that it is a mind altering drug, but I wouldn't go as far to say that it has tricked me into thinking there is nothing wrong with it. Of course I would speak highly of the good things and hide the bad things. Look at people when they make a theme preview, they show off the best parts of the theme and hide the worse parts. There will always be 2 sides of everything thats just the way it is. Light, Dark, White, Black, Ground, Sky, ect. There will always be those few that LOVE pot, and there will always be those few that DEPISE pot and think it's the work of the devil. You can't say one is wrong and the other is right, both are right to those that think they are. Those that smoke enjoy pot and they see nothing wrong with it, or at least let the good outweigh the bad. Those that have never smoked usually dislike it all together but can't ever really be taken seriously because they have never experienced it. The best are the ones that have smoked and quit. They can speak of the good and the bad, and every case is a different one when it comes to those types of people. I most likely will never quit smoking. I will lower my dosages as life goes on but I will always enjoy a good smoke because it helps relax me when I have a lot of stress to deal with. And knowing lif stress will never go away. It will be legal one day (Speaking about Canada), wether its tomorrow or in 15 years. It will because the side effects are much better compared to the side effects of smoking cigarettes.

Some people enjoy a good smoke for fun, some like to party with it, some like to relax with it and some go crazy on it. Everyone is different and handles the drug differently. I believe if you make it legal it will be a little hectic for the first while but that will all dum down as people get used to it and then it will become more civilized. Even if you can only smoke it in your home, what is wrong about that? Your not doing anything destructive. Your just enjoying yourself at home and that I will say I see nothing wrong with it at all.
