Was I Ever This Young?

Another old picture of me (and some friends)

Been a while since I posted a picture blog. This shot is from when I was a student attending class right here at DLI. It's from July 93. We were just past the halfway point of our class and had already lost four of the ten students we'd started with. One of the guys in this picture 'rolled' into our class after several months of medical hold for a knee injury. Sadly, we lost him about two weeks after this picture was taken and another one of the guys about a month later. Both were for non-academic reasons and both eventually finished the course (one of them left and came back years later to do it again).

As of today, I know that five of the guys have gotten out and I'm pretty sure the sixth has, too. I'm the only one left from 'C¹Ý' (section C).



This may be the oldest picture I have of myself in the Army. I'd been in for less than a year at this point.

Damn, Chip... I remember those guys. Can't put names to all the faces, but somehow through an alcoholic haze I remember. You don't want to see some of the pics I have from DLI. Ok, I don't want you to see them!

Nah, his name is James Hultz. He got out about 5 years ago. Maybe more.

From left to right - Donald Southerland (that's right, I went to class with Donald Southerland!), Travis Bartlett, Brett Bowen, Ed Bundy, Jeff Sabo, and James Hultz.

Ok, I remember 5 out of 7; don't recall Bartlett or Bundy... but overall not too bad, considering.

don't recall Bartlett or Bundy...


They were Marines (hence the green t-shirts) and neither were ever stationed in Korea. No surprise you didn't recall them.

Ok, I'm slow--which one are you?

Also, on a completely random note--I love the brown t-shirt you wear in the army---I don't know why, but at a very early age, I started stealing them from my Dad...They are the perfect just hanging around being lazy shirt--but they are more interesting than a boring old white tee.

Actually, that's not true. My car accident was a little over a year before this picture. In fact, I went home for a deposition a week after this picture. When I came back, Sabo was gone.
