10 years old
She flops
silly on the snow.
As he sets up the sled course,
he has a plan.
No doubt
she will foil even his most careful strategies.
He gestures,
points,
a small politician
explaining the hows and whys.
They go,
quickly, quickly!
Buddies,
10 years and counting.
She's flopping again,
silly, silly.
He watches,
the epitome of reason.
And he smiles,
appreciating what she
IS.
Placing his green bucket carefully.
She sends it reeling with a kick.
HER bucket,
red and bright,
goes there.
Allowances are made
for a friendship like this.
They'll go again,
plans or not,
tangling together.
Friends.
Smiles and eye rolls,
cold breath, racing,
Games of 10 years
and counting.
