Changing the color of your skins on the fly

A lot of people don't do this very much and it's really a shame because it can make one visual style into a thousand different ones.

I've been running one of his Kol's "Beige Azul" (imported into WindowBlinds). It's a good color by default but sometimes I just want to have a different color.

So to change that go into WBConfig and choose "enable color" and "force coloring" and then pick the color you want. I sometimes play around with the gamma too.

Here's an example:

I've thought about asking or writing a utility that would slowly change the hue of a given visual style as the day progresses. So each newly created window would have a slightly different color than the previously opened window. I think that would be pretty cool anyway (though I am a geek so maybe I'm alone in that).

But try it for yourself. Pick your favorite visual style and just play around with the color and brightness to see if you can make it more suited to your tastes/monitor/whatever.

Wow that sounds good Brad. i will have to try that. I hope you develop a program that changes the color randomly thoughout the day that would be outstanding.

Excellent Brad.....There are some skins that i go back to time and time again bacause their build is so good.........There are times when i find other components like a Winamp and Sysmetrix skin or DX2 stuff which would look nice all together but then i cannot find a Windowblind that matches........this facility allows you to make suites that much better and recolour your favourite Blind all at a drop of a hat. After the toolbar addition i think this is one of the best recent additions to the Windowblinds software.......and if you can take it any further that would be great

That's fun to do, and it really makes your skin library so much more flexible. One other (coloring) thing that I have had fun playing with is the "lights effect" in Windows FX. You can get some amazing gradients that way.

It seems to me that scripting for Windows FX might one day make the gradient shifting possible, not only te way you envision it, but in other ways too... for instance the title bar could run colors like a marquee... Kind of psychedelic sounding, I know, but i think also it could be done subtly with some finesse to make a more soothing effect..

This is an example of color change using a combination of the windowblind configuration and Windows FX. This is Rubicon, believe it or not. It is not a large picture due to storage limitations. And I am not good at the Windows FX because I don't really understand the screen coordinates that well.

Would be great to have an application like that. Make sure to add an option that the whole skin is changing, so in the morning it is something like blue and when the day ends it will slowly turn into dark red or something, that would be awesome!

Although I'm glad the change color option is there, I'm never happy with the results.......... the colors never look right to me, no matter how much tweaking I do.....
