Build 22616 change to action center & flyouts, Taskbar fro Stardock is making Microsoft taskbar invisible

After installing Microsoft Build 22616 to change certain behaviors, I see the microsoft display for action center but Stardock taskbar makes it invisible now.  It is painted over.  This seems to be a lack of coordination by both Microsoft and Stardock.

For the missing system tray on the latest insider build, this can be fixed by adding the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8

Create a new key of type REG_SZ with the Name "OldTaskbarOn11" and give it a value of 1.

Then sign out and in again.

As noted before we do not officially support insider builds of Windows for these reasons.

I would recommend people stick to released versions of Windows.  If Microsoft don't support it then don't touch it on anything you use on a daily basis unless you are a software dev.

Thank you.  To avoid a registry hack, I turned off allowing Stardock to enhance the taskbar experience.

Umm, thats a Stardock registry key.  Turning off the enhanced taskbar options in Start11 also changes a Stardock registry key.

It is funny, the fix is basically just a registry key that turns off every single fix that has been done with the Windows 11 insider preview channel. Basically this means; If Stardock never did anything to make Start 11 work on the insiders channel, it would now be working perfectly. That is a lot of wasted man hours.

The silver lining is that now texture and transparency will not be a problem on 22H2.

It is particularly frustrating as the next update had a whole pile of fixes for the newer taskbar ready to go.  Still I suspect the new taskbar will return in dev channel at some point and when it does we will just have to flick a switch to support it.

On the other hand we are feeling good about having the switch in there in case Microsoft did something like this

That does sound frustrating. But, I do agree that the new taskbar very well could resurface on the DEV channel once they branch off again. I haven't heard anything as to why they pulled it from 22H2, it could come down to just not being finished in time similar to their tabbed explorer that was removed earlier.

I think what we are seeing now is a consolidation process as they figure out how to separate the Beta and Dev channel back into two different builds. I would wager that we see a new dev build very soon.
