1.5 million milestone

It's going to be close but if all goes well WinCustomize may break the 1.5 million unique visitor mark for the first time ever (31 days in August helps too).

We're at 1.1 million and it's only the 21st. That's about new 52,000 unique visitors daily so with 9 full days left, if we keep it up we'll break that record.

Here are some interesting stats:

Unique vistior represents the # of actual differnet people. Some times talk about # of hits or visits and such.  But 1 person can visit many times.

For instance, on August 20th 877 people visited this site more than 50 times!

There were 76,472 unique visitors in a given day (the # of monthly uniques is far less than the daily uniques X days in month since many of these people will visit again tomorrow and at other times).

In fact, as a depressing stat, 70% of peple who visit this site only visit ONE time and then never visit again. In 2003, only 1.4% of the year's visitors are "regulars" (visit the site many times per month). But 1.4% of the year's unique visitors is still 201,000 people.

In fact, in 2003, there have been roughly 14 MILLION unique visitors. Though like I said, only 30% of those people ever bothre to return. Though, this stat has to be taken with some grains of salt since it is uses cookies and IP info and such (web log stuff) to determine this info.

There's about 400,000 users who visit the site fairly frequently (we have about 700,000 actual member accounts here to put things in perspective).

This is great to hear really.

Although it does leave one wondering what if anything could be done to find out the reason behind the one time wonders?

It might be more trouble than it is worth, but maybe a questionnaire which people could opt in on answering?

Something along the lines of what it is they are looking for in a customization site and what they feel might be missing and would like to find.

What it was which drew them to the site to begin with and what brings them back.

much more could be added to it I am sure T-Man, KarmaGirl, Jafo, DavidK, Yourself and all the others have some idea of what would be very useful info which might help in expanding the returning users base.

Still, as I said it is pretty cool with the hit count

Oh, something to think about a rolling daily/monthly/yearly display showing this info and the number of logged on users, and a break down of the levels logged in at any given moment on a separate page/screen so those interested in more in depth info like that could pull it up

hmmmm...

what happened to the 'store front' wincustomize idea? I think the winCuso site is a little intimidating for the casual on looker.
