They'll be coming back shortly. The problem, especially with the custom races, is that there's a lot of beta "stuff" that has been removed (or other traits added) that make them flaky in MP.

Having had access to custom races and larger map sizes during the beta for mp, I was very annoyed to see that they 'vanished' on release, frustrating considering I was looking forward to setting up a MP game.
But that's fine - glad that they are being worked on and refined for better use of play. Just wanted confirmation that they were coming back, glad that they are!
