Options Setup

I am trying to help a "TOTALLY NEWBIE" friend (via telephone) to install and configure Start8. There are so many options that I am missing something when I have him configure the options. He wants a regular start menu to appear when he clicks on the lower left corner icon. Instead of a regular start menu, he is getting the Windows 8 "Start Screen" or his home page. What option selection am I missing please?
