Desktop doesn't switch off when using Start8's Shutdown button

Hi,

I'm using the latest version of Start8 on my Windows 8.1 desktop and when I click the normal Shutdown button from the Start8 menu, Windows shuts down and then the PC just sits there doing nothing and I have to switch it off manually. The PC will shutdown and turn itself off correctly if I use a batch file containing this line:

shutdown -t 0 -s -f

Seems like a bug to me. Does Start8 shut down the PC in a different way to the way I've done it in my batch file?

Your shutdown string is not the default for Windows 8 and onwards.

The OS will use /hybrid which is used for fast startup shutdowns. Start8 will use this flag in order to match up with the OS. Some machines do not like this option due to bugs in their BIOS and you can disable this setting using the OS setting to disable fast startup. I think this is in power settings.

You should experience the very same hangs when shutting down from the charms menu. Be aware that in hybrid mode the machine can take some time after the monitor has turned off to actually turn off as it is saving information for when you bootup.

Ah right, thanks for that info. I've left it for ~5 minutes before and it never turned off so I'm sure it's an incompatibility problem. The motherboard is 4.5 years old now so it certainly doesn't support Windows 8 "fast bootup" features that I've seen on more recent motherboards.

Hybrid wouldn't be beneficial on this machine anyway: the longest part of the boot process by far is POST! I'll look into disabling hybrid boot.

I think there is a bug in version 1.30 and 1.31.

I use the shutdown button but the /hybrid switch does not apply. It only works over the charmbar and the commandline. The shutdown on start8 initiates always a normal shutdown. Can you fix this please?
