Hello Karmgahl
I had to write to you after reading this odd issue. I googled this issue cos I have exact same problem with steam (just another game thou) and ended up at this forum post. (All other post includes the same advices again and again which never seems to work at all, like advising for validating game cache).
The only difference is that I am trying to play CS-GO Competitive mode (only reason I bought the damn game!), and every time I join the que, it finds a game fast and smooth, it joins the server fast and smooth but... the game persists sometimes only for 1 second, other times for a couple of rounds ingame, then I get a disconnect from the game with a error message saying "Your local game file pak01_0xRANDOMx does not match the server files.
So basically I am being kicked for not having the correct versions of files (what else, right?). Well my brother also play CS-GO and we did the same thing, copying all his pak01_01, pak01_02, etc etc, since his Steam and CS-GO works perfect! But no... It did not work.. I tried deleting all the files in the folder, then do a 'validate game cache' on the game, I tried only deleting the specific file that it was complaining about, I tried deleting whole game, manually, and through steam and also from the software removal tool from windows (7). I tried deleting the .bob file thing, restarting steam, I tried rebooting windows, deleting steam, reinstalling on other locations, other hard-drives, dude I think I basically tried everything (except format c:/ (windows7)). I shut down the firewall while caching, I shut down my anti-virus (avast! - a light anti-virus program) and then did a cache of game files after deleting those pak01_0 files. And still I get the same result every time I try to join a Competitive mode match.. a few seconds ingame and then disconnect with error message...
My only way of playing the game when getting these errors, is to quit game fast, delete the specific file, open game again, join the live-going competitive game again (you have like 2 minutes to join in before timer-ban on Competitive mode is dropped down upon you straight from hell..) and then I am basically running around with many missing textures in-game (sometimes even some sound files are missing after relaunch of the game).. Well at least I am now playing without being kicked for file errors, the only thing is, sometimes I get kicked/disconnected by having a file error (local file mismatch with server files) containing certain pak01_files that are crucial to even execute the game(start/launch the game), which means, when exiting game, deleting those pak01_2x ones, then I can't even start the game again...
I can play CS-GO on regular FFA servers, on passworded servers and other official servers, without having problems with file errors as mentioned above.. So I totally don't get this issue? All other games goes smoothly as well (diablo3, cs1.6, wow, LOL and so on)
If you read this far, sorry for the whining and bulling, it's just freaking frustrating to have 7 days ban every time I want to play some Competitive games :/
Another weird thing is, I just had a few weeks without any above issues and then suddenly it started doing the same thing again.. And I can't really test my "fixing issue" since I cant join the game before the 7 day ban is over...
Does my issue comply to yours? And have you figured a way to deal with this?
Best regards and thanks in advance
