Where is the list of recent programs?

I guess I'm not much different from others in that I run several programs repeatedly, and most of them from shortcuts on my desktop.   However they show up on the list at the top.   I would like to find a way to purge these as well as others from the list permanently.    Is this possible?

You can remove something from the list by right clicking on it and selecting remove from list.

The list itself is maintained by the OS and is split into multiple encoded registry keys, so it is not suitable for direct user modification I am afraid.

I know what you mean, I've done research on win7 on how the list is obtained and found out and yes, its a bummer to get to and work on.

Even found a utility that put it on the screen but it was still tough.     I was hoping start8 would maintain it's own, but that would be a useless expenditure of time wouldn't it!
