The table of scores at the end shows Draginol having the highest score with 10,000. But I got 17,828!

An easy way to gain many points for that matter is the treasure vault and an absurd amount of gildar ... just about a few quadrillions. Then win the game by conquest on a huge map. Draginol guaranteed.

Yes, I suspect the devs are a little envious of truly heroic legends like you. That's probably why scores above 10,000 don't show up on the chart
The final scores showing in the game were achieved by blindfolded players. You are of course welcome to try your hand at beating them.

Yes, it's a common misunderstanding. We're told it's not a handicap, and that the AI doesn't look, either, but I have my doubts.
