Windows 8.... hmmmm not really sure....
In win 7, you have to regedit to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Valve\Steam\Apps\228260 and change VCRedist to 1
See if you have a DWORD of VCRedist? Usually, we have to change that data value to 1. *BUT* I have no idea if this works in WIN 8, and I do NOT have VCRedist listed in my registry for this app. I'm going to guesstimate that is has something to do with installing on 8 and it not cleaning up after itself. In which case just deleting the .vdf files out of the FE folder might be a wiser first step. Don't worry, you are not going to break the game, steam will fix it if you delete something you need.
