Hi,
I wish to offer some possible train/skill suggestions:
1: As a race, one could perhaps add a "lessened cooldown on all special actions" feature, meaning that an Axeman of that race gets to cleave every 3, not every 5 turns.
2: Pikewalls: If an enemy is in front of you, and a friendly pike/long spear unit is behind you, you get a swarm bonus for that pike/Spear unit. One should add that the supporting pike unit may not also give a regular swarm bonus against the same enemy.
3: One could do a lot of shenagians with versions of the Altar "Rush" mechanic. For example, one could add a "taunt" mechnanic that makes neighbouring AI units prioritize the taunting unit while attacking, and also gives a new move. There are skills one doesnt use because one would rather attack anyway, and making fairly weak skills not cost the turn could be a great way to buff these skills. Similiarly, some races could perhaps get a "rush" skill that is just an attack and then adds an extra move without the possibility of attacking to simulate hit and run units.
4: Perhaps some buffing up of other profession, or some nerfing of beastlord (more fun if you are a mage) is in order. The new splitting game play greatly rewards beastlords, because you can have secondary heroes capable of some question as soon as you get them a random bear/Spider and some mire skaths. Even better, beasts dont cost upkeep. In a current hard game, I am first in military power in turn 120 (double of any AI)or so, having built a grand total of 1 additonal unit. The rest is just captured beasts. My souvereign is running around with a giant rock spider, one harridan, 2 hergons and a slith Skath, although I am now finally building a regular army to deal with that spider queen thing. Is it by the way wad that the spider queen secondary stack has units of 4 corpse spider in it? That stack registers as "Epic", and is worse than her main force. I will of course grab some escape scroll and try to tame those 4 Corspe spider units (as in, 4 corpse spiders in one unit, like the starting militia units have 3 militias). In that game, I have 3 fully stuffed secondary heroes filled with beasts and the occassional panca archer.
I think I will do the next game as a Gilden Blood not beastlord just to have some valid comparisons.
