Do not like the tactical battle formations

My units appear to randomly scattered.   My mage champion is 5 tiles away from any other unit, enemy or friendly.

Just had a battle with wolves.  My army was split on opposite sides of a hill.  Two of them were immediately killed.

I want to be able to initially place my units.   I think I can do a much better job than the AI.    Read any story about a real battle and see how the general arranges his forces.  Agincourt was won because of the initial formations.

This is so bad that I have to quit playing LH.  Too frustrating!  It is bad in FE but this is worse.

Does the Commander class get a Tactics skill that allows arranging troops before the battle begins? That would be pretty cool.

Have to agree. If you can't place units normally, it makes sense to give Commanders a moderate-to-high level skill that would do just that.

I'm loving the new tactical battles!  FE was way too easy... I like that I'm forced to think about designing proper troops for these new tactical battle maps and abilities.

Tactical is much improved, but the situation the OP is referring to where your army is split up randomly and for no apparent reason is pretty bad. If they can make a UI for placing units then they should just do that since it's a pretty common issue. Peopleo have been asking for this feature since WoM so I wouldn't hold my breath

I would oppose manual placement of units for tac battles.  However, we have an 'army' button on the strategic (also cloth) map.  Might the three rows of three be used to indicate marching order, and placement on the tac map?  And yes, all the units should be grouped together, and not split up when initially placed on the tac map.

I actually think the placements now, smaller battle maps with more choke points, and the swarm mechanic all makes for alot better battles where you actually risk to lose troops. Never happened to me before.

Agree with the OP, I'm constantly losing my mage because he/she starts right up front and usually isolated. Wouldn't a fix be to flag mages as ranged?

Yup, mentioned that in my post as well. I don't think this should be treat available to the Commander class only though. Should be available every time when there is a battle, even if your army has no champions within at the moment. 

Probably the attacker should get a bigger area available to arrange his army and the defender slightly smaller.
