Berserk is actually quite good right now. however the AI will sometimes not attack even when an AI is surrounded. The Ai controlling it needs to be far more aggressive (remember it's berserk)
Yes, I had a unit (although on about half health) that I put in attacking range of the enemy, selected Berserk, and it ran away.
In addition to what I've found, heroes will occasionally cast while in berserk.
