Questions from a prospective Rebellion buyer

Hi everyone,

Longtime Sins player, prospective Rebellion buyer. (The Gamestop sale has me interested.) Before I buy, I would like some honest feedback about the game from the mouths of players -- hopefully the unvarnished truth! I have not read any reviews because I want to hear from the community first.

I played Sins Trinity extensively, modded with Distant Stars. DS gave the game a whole new dimension -- one that vanilla Sins could never match. I could never go back to vanilla after DS. I am a bit worried that I will have to suffer through a bit of Sins Vanilla 2.0 with Rebellion, so I have some questions:

1. Does Rebellion feel as "big" and as improved as DS vs. Vanilla Sins Trinity? Or is there a mod of similar function yet for Rebellion? (If there is and it is good, I will basically buy it right now.)

2. I understand that Rebellion is standalone, but does it contain all the "stuff" from Trinity? (I'm high-maintenance -- I don't want to "lose" anything!)

3. What is the state of Rebellion modding generally?

4. Are people having fun with it?

1. DS will currently work with Rebellion 1.1. Its a bit buggy but we are working through it.

2. Yes, yes it does.

I have played rebellion for nearly 400 hours now, so yes, I am having fun
Mods for rebellion are still a WiP but are coming along slowly(http://www.moddb.com/games/sins-of-a-solar-empire-rebellion/mods)

And rebellion has all the stuff from trinity, AND MORE!(titans corvettes more factions etc. etc. etc!)

If you buy it and you are interested in PvE feel free to add me (I believe it's ezeltje299 on steam)

So happy that DS is compatible. I can handle a few bugs if they are on the fix list!

2. All if it and of course all new features as well.

 

3. Many mods are already converted.... Distant Stars, E4X, Baiknight Graphics Mods Updates (although Rebellion has a inbuilt graphic update as well, but the mod is even more shiny).... to name the most well known ones.

 

Make sure to chech the modding section of this forum.

 

 

4. Absolutly. The best Sins yet without any doubt.

1. I'd imagine so. I'll admit I only play modded Sins; haven't touched vanilla much.

2. Yes.

3. Quite good. Many mods have been converted over so far, and most are planning to port over to Rebellion.

4. Tons; the fact that a "Titan" entity exists has been a boon for the mod I work on, SoGE, as it's allowed us to do several, game changing, additions. Plus it looks better in the new engine.

There's currently a steam sale on Rebellion for $13.59, which is finally low enough for me to consider buying it.

 

Thing is... I got bored with Trinity after I'd played quite a few games. It's a good game, but after I'd thrashed the AI a good number of times, I started playing other games. Mods like Distant Stars did help to prolong its life.

My question is... if I felt fatigued by Trinity, do you think Rebellion breaths enough life to make it feel 'new' again?

(Please understand I am not criticizing Sins. I liked it a lot... I just played it way too much)

This is just my new opinion, but I don't think so. Although there are a few features that definitely make the game feel new, it is still Sins at it's core. There are new techs and ships that do liven up the game, but it still feels the same by in large. Think of Sins Rebellion as more of an expansion pack than a whole new game.

For 13.59 though, I'd say it's well worth it. It may not be a brand new experience, but it's still good.

Yeah, the price point definitely hit the sweet spot.

Guess I'll have to load up Sins and see how I feel about Trinity after a loooong absence

Edit: In case anyone is curious, I decided to buy, after having some fun in Sins. Don't know if this will be one of those "buy but never really play that much" things, but at that pricepoint, seems worth it
