Yea i know what you mean other things could be tweaked and stuff but a windows start menu should be able to do windows commands its the law
I know I can do this in the Windows 7 Start Menu since I used to do it all the time... especially for %appdata%\.minecraft . Hopefully this is added/fixed in the next Start8 release.
