I think it did this by mistake somehow, but I liked it. After restarting it went back to being full screen. I'd like it if we could still see the task bar when in full screen windows 8 menu. 

Since, sometimes I click the start menu, but want to just check something, then i want to switch to another window, so I don't want to have to click the start button again, but would like to just click the window on the task bar.

I think I'm not the only person who would like this to be an option.
