I am playing Sins Diplomacy with the latest update. I find that no matter what I do, the game slows down to a level of unplayability after a while. My frame rate drops to 10-15 and I've tried Turbo Utilities 2012, dropped all the details to low, and it has no effect.
I'm on a dual core i7 with 6 GB of ram and 2GB of video ram.
What can I possibly do here?
the first suggestions are
1 turn off tradeship icons
2 un-pin as much as you can from the empire tree
3 lower the settings on planets, ship & structures
4 try overclocking the CPU & ram
harpo
you should also break all ship visual and planet visual treaties, those definetly slow down the game when you're playing a lot of AI's.
The suggestions from harpo and leo more or less cover everything that can be done to speed up the game.
The big issue is that Sins is single thread and thus locked to the cpu speed of a single core.
I have everything unpinned. What does it mean to break up visual treaties?
I have done everything except overclock as I don't know how to do that.
PS: I am on a dell xps 15 laptop.
in the diplomacy section, where you offer/accept treaties or cease fires, break any Ship viewing trieties or planet viewing treaties with your allies to speed up your game. that is assuming you have those treaties in effect
gom712 on laptops, do NOT ever ATTEMPT to overclock as it could destroy your computer from overheating, for desktops overclocking is an option. btw on my i7-2600k w7 64bit desktop system, I have played a 4 hour game with max fleet, and have had no lag with all setings on and at MAX detail, and it was only using 1.5gb of ram (3 player map 74 gw 1 star)
So how come I'm so slow Harpo? I'm playing Ancient Gifts with four AIs and about 4 hours in I'm dead in the water at 10 FPS
Have you lowered the shadow quality? That did the most for me.
Other options: lower the anti-aliasing level. Turn off bloom and some of the other misc effects (asteroids, dust clouds, ..., debris).
It'll probably be a single thing that makes most of the difference to you. Just experiment a little.
