Space ponies?

I have been working to get as many achievements as I can in Rebellion before the official release (so far 16/63) and this one caught me off guard...

 

Well, story was I was playing a game on a medium sized map and all of a sudden I get this achievement titled: Space Ponies!...

Ok then...

 

What I am mainly wondering is how the hell I managed to get this... So, how did I get this?

Its a planet bonus that does nothing but unlock that achievement. You probably got it from capturing and exploring an occupied planet, they seem to have it every time. Its something of a running community joke since the original Sins.

Good to know, still don't understand how that has any relation to Ponies but it sure had me thinking "Um...What?"

It's a joke from the original Sins beta, it actually has nothing to do with the new Ponies.

Been here since the original Sins and I still don't know where that joke came from.  I mean sure, I know it was from the beta, but I'd like to know what it's basis was.  Did people blame bugs on the space ponies or something?  Idk..

Just a guess but I've always imagined something like this:

Designer: We need X, Y and Z features in the beta by Tuesday!

Programmer: I suppose you want a pony with that?

Designer: Sure whatever, this is a Sci-fi thing though, better make it a space pony.

Programmer: Sigh.

can i point out that the planet that unlocks it there are actually small ponies running around it somewhere (yes in space at l;east in the other games) i was following a strike craft zoomed and and saw heard of ponies run past and was like wait   WTF
