Steam is ok, no better than a disk IMO but no worse either.
Only things i have against steam are the fact that brand new games are ALWAYS £5-£10 more expensive than retail which is silly considering the lack of overheads. Also it takes me 30 mins to go to shop, buy and install game. Cos my internet is only 5Mb/s it takes a lot longer on Steam.
I do think it should be one or none though. I.E we have only ONE digital distribution method, i would opt for steam as its already established, or we have none. having multiple digital distro's is completely undermining the main benefit of them which is the centralisation and cloud nature of the software.
Another point would be that if i buy a game on disk i shouldnt need steam to play it. Supreme Commander 2 is a case in point.
Got game, put disk in, installed game (3gb of it anyway), then had to download 8GB of steam
I dont think the software is the problem its the retards dictating how the software is used who are the problem.
Good concept bad execution.
P.S when u have to use steam and then sign into some crap like GFWL as well that really pisses me off.
