[Gameplay] Truce amongst rogues

This is probably going to be a dumb question, but how are we supposed to colonize the neutral planets after researching this tech?

 

If we are not supposed to colonize them at all (which was my initial guess) then the tech does not make much sense since neutrals don't build trade ports or give you any income and don't accept missions of any kind, nor you can use their planets to build new structures. Sure, it allows you to move through the map fast and to go to the front lines of the enemy empire, but it completely cripples your economy, removes your supply lines and unless your fleet is vastly superior to the enemy's (and if the map is big, no matter how fast you move, by the time you get to the enemy your fleet won't be superior anymore) you will just hit a wall and won't be able to even take their first planet, which kills the game for you.

 

If there is a way to colonize the neutral planets I'd be most pleased to hear it, since I've been trying to figure it out without any success.

umm. ya. just send a colony ship. itll be colonized up quite quick.

 

though, neutral colonized planets (the occupation world) you will still have issues with. known issue.

Local militia don't have colonies you need to bomb, the planets are unclaimed. So just send a colony frigate or colony capital and bam, free planet with a free militia defense force.

The one exception is the Artefact Planet, whose occupants need to be made immune to Truce Amongst Rogues.

The thing is, they don't get colonized by colony ships nor by Akkans...

The planet in this case is a moon, i get the message "Can only be used on neutral targets" when I use the ability.

Same happens with every other planet that belongs to a neutral faction.

Maybe I discovered a bug?

What the hell? They have extractors and everything. That's definitely a bug, though I'm not sure of the cause, since I've never encountered this problem.

You could try sending a copy of the savefile in to the developers for them to take a look.

That would be a neutral colony. They tend to have structures and ships - it is not a bug, in fact, some per-built maps come with neutral colonies.

... Seriously? I've played on a lot of the pre-built maps and never run into one.

Neutral colonies, how quaint.

 

Bomb them from orbit.

solution:  stop trying to use the ingame map editor, and use galaxy forge.

That's exactly the problem, and every planet in this map is a neutral colonies (it's a custom large made map made through the in-game thingie, so it's not like I place them there myself).

I've even encountered a neutral colony with several vasari capital ships and a titan!

There are lots of maps with neutral colonies, so I guess it's a bug after all and it'll be fixed when they fix the Artefact planet bug. (And if you didn't think about this yet, take note of it Stardock!).

I'm guessing there's no way around it yet?

But, but, every time I tried to make a map using galaxy forge I get an instant automatic defeat when starting the game (I think I remember trying to find the cause but just got tired and used the in-game editor). Maybe I'll have to learn?

The neutral colony with the Vasari fleet, Titan and Starbase is the Artefact Planet. Just saying.

I have a proposal to deal with unconquerable neutral militia planets for TEC players that get truce amongst rouges.

Culture. If your culture dominates the grav well and you can keep that culture for a couple minutes, the neutral colony simply joins your empire. (but only if you have the truce amongst rouges research) Or maybe even make a new tech, call it friends amongst rouges or something and make it 1 or 2 tech levels above truce amongst rouges and have this new tech give you culturally dominated pre-colonized neutral militia planets.

That would still not fix the Artefact planet bug

 

(thanks Haze, didn't realize that, I forgot it's present in every map, and not just the ones with the victory condition activated).

The devs would have to make the fortified planet immune to Truce amongst rouges and the like.

They are aware of this issue and are working on it. (I think)

If you can't bomb these neutral colonies because of Truce Among Rogues but want to use the in-game map designer (NOT galaxy forge), make sure the militia strength slider all the way to the left so they are as weak as possible and don't have their planets colonized.  you have to do this for every planet group.  i believe this is the setting that regular random maps use so you should still see terran and desert planets guarded by kodiaks.  

having neutral colonies can add something to the game because it encourages you to research different techs early like siege frigates.  I haven't played a map like this in a while though so I haven't tested the Truce Among Rogues tech with it.

To expand on this, you can set planetary militia to have a chance of owning a planet, in the GalaxyScenarioDef file. As militia all spawn with a limited credit/resource bank, and the planets will give them constructors, they may build things. However, at least in Entrenchment, the game will never generate a planet-owning militia unless it is the only option available, regardless of the actual chance specified.
