I was tempted to make my own thread because the title of this thread isnt properly representative (it should be titled "what should Titans do") and also, I was thinking about making that thread even before I found this one. Just saying.
I believe Titans need to have some strategic importance. They shouldnt be an uber unit. These are the traits a Titan absolutely needs to have:
It needs to be antistrikecraft, either through special abilities as listed above or through raw damage.
It does need to have the same damage and health potential of a starbase through upgrades.
Titans need to be able to bomb gravity wells from adjacent gravity wells and unlike novaliths and kosturas, the effect would apply to everything in the gravity well including planets. The ability in question would be called "destabilize phase space" and have the same effect that starbases do except in an offensive way. It wouldnt OP because its no stackable. You cant just park your titan in an adjacent gravity well and bomb away.
Each Titan would have an extremely useful utility power that is obtained through lots of research and requires multiple upgrade slots on the Titan.
TEC L's Titan would be capable of decimating planets and turning them into asteroids and bypasses enforced loyalty.
Advent L's Titan could take over capitals and frigates with mind control, and the Titan has a huge culture bonus about half the intensity of the deliverance engine.
Vasari L's have an ability that allows them to act as a interstellar phase stabilizer, where instead of ships having to jump from star to star, they can jump from wherever they are directly to the Titan. To make up for the lack of usefulness of this ability on single star maps, the titan has the ability to fire phase node's onto planets that allow extremely rapid phase transit.
With the rebels Titans things get interesting. The rebels interests and therefore their technology diverge into a completely different direction from the loyalists. Rebels are the child of their old fathers, and are therefore very liberal minded and embrace new ideas. Each Rebel faction still holds onto its father's strengths, but embraces the other two factions ideas as well.
TEC R's Titan excels at assaulting planetary structures and ships. Through combination of telekinetic manipulation of concentrated energy, and the vasari's miniaturization of phase technology in munitions, as well as the assimilation of their energy weapons, their Titan is the ultimate anti ship and planetary structure weapon.
Vasari R's Titan excels at manipulating phase space on a micro sized level. Combination of telekinetic manipulation of energy and nuclear supercharging has significantly boosted the sub-light travel of ships. Vasari have also combined physical and energy based weapons and combined them with their own phase-munitions to create a very capable armada.
Im absolutely stumped about the Advent rebels.
