Just to make something clear to anyone who might not be familiar with deviantMAG, DM is deviantART, Inc.'s official webzine. It is free to the public from the deviantMAG website, linked below. A PDF version of Issue 03 (as there was for Issue 02) will be coming soon.
Regarding the tragic delays of this issue, let me tell you a story. It is the story of a staff who had difficulty meeting the original deadline for an issue. Since the deadline then had to be pushed back, we ran into a major scheduling crisis, which the original deadline had been designed to avoid: mid-semester crunch. The sudden inability for the collegiate members of our staff to function with regard to anything other than schoolwork brought work on the issue to a standstill. But this has passed, and the dark days have passed. Rejoice now, for Issue 03 is upon us! Henceforth, I will say no more of these scheduling issues.
Issue 03 is filled to the brim with fantastic content reaching for content from both within the confines deviantART and from the great world of art that lies beyond DA. We've added several new sections and features to our list of regular sections:
- Revolving Doors is a brand spanking new section that will, each issue, turn the spotlight on some modern genre of artistic expression. This issue, the focus is on sequential art (a la comic books). Next issue, perhaps you'll see 3D animation, or pixel art, or maybe even shock art. You'll just have to wait and see.
- For our first two issues, we resisted the lure of an outright featured artist. After a lot of editorial haggling and bickering and compromising, we've decided that deviantMAG will, like many other e-zines, have a Featured Artist section. We're going to do our best to pull out all the big shots for our mag, though. This issue, the marvelous Enayla is on display in our featured artist parlor, offering us both an exclusive interview and a walkthrough of one of her beautiful artworks.
- Artist Crossroads is a new recurring feature to the Community section of deviantMAG. The fundamental idea is simple: we bring two artists with different talents together and tell the to make some collaborative art. The details of this is where this feature gets really interesting, though. Not only will they be making a piece of art exclusvely for our DM readers, but they'll also give us artist journals, any logs of artist interaction, and a step-by-step walkthrough of the final product. This issue, the artists who met at the crossroads are flummox and realitysquared.
There's much, much more where all this came from. Much more than I need to sit here and tell you about -- just go read it!
