well, im halfway through the episode where the Destiny flies into the sun (in Australia they air the episodes one week behind the US)

and i have to say im rather impressed. i knew about ramscoop technology but i have to say i didnt think about it... the scene where the ship recharges itself was truly... idn... heartwarming? inspirational? idn, but i was very impressed!

regardless, though, if they dont tone down the drama, its gonna get old real quick

Well, I learned from Warehouse 13 that a bad beginning does not necessarily equate with a bad show.... but W13 wasn't this aweful, and it got better within the first few episodes (third one if I recall). This, on the other hand.......

Also the blatant militarism drives me up the wall: Thug GOOD, scientist BAD. Sheesh.....

Each person is bad, just technically if it wasnt for Rush and his undying need to get on the Destiny no one would be lost right now, he had a point about not going to earth but didnt need to dial the 9th chevron, would of been better to dial another planet and then dial earth. So technically Rush is gonna be a bad guy for now, maybe every season each member will fall into the badguy role using their "weaknesses" as a flashpoint to get them to act out and cause drama onboard even cause the deaths of others. Im just hoping they get done with the whole "ship saves the day" type episodes soon and actually get into some interesting scenarios.

Greer is my hero, the guy might be a bit hotheaded but He doesnt seem at all greedy or easily swayed by the little things that drives everyone up the wall. He keeps it in when things goes bad, which isnt good but at the same time, without a Greer onboard, I think things would look alot differently when they make such decisions as the one on the ep Light. Most of the Military personell are upstanding and will do their jobs even in the face of life or death, but even then you still get a few cowards (bald guy Greer put the smackdown on) or people who start to question things when it seems the Leadership dont know their heads from their asses (Colonel Young) The guy just doesnt seem to be on top of things whatso ever. Relying on Scott and Greer to really pull things off when it comes to controlling the masses. Which to be honest isnt surprising as its something happens alot in the Military. Higher ranked personell taking the credit for the sacrifices and hardwork of the lower ranked. To me Colonel Young seems like he got lucky his whole career, maybe faced a few hardships, but for the most part asskissing and being in the right place at the right time has gotten him his command, But the fact he cant even keep 1 man in line (Rush) tells me this guy really has no leadership skills. While I dont think Young is a real bad person, (he keeps mentioning everyone around him is just not the right people) He himself isnt the right person for the job.

This last episode was a little better.

A very little bit better.

I still saw the outcome, however. So it is still way to predictable.

A sudden water shortage, and the next stargate/planet they come to is basically an ice planet.

The SG team has to go far in their search for 'clean' ice/water (just like with the sand planet), while the Destiny's crew have an alien life form that is consuming their water (which came from the sand planet).

WOW! Let's send the water consuming aliens through the gate to the ice planet! DUH!!!!

Add in a little drama with one of the SG team falling into a hole.

This show is entirely too predictable. It started out lame, and it remains so even to the 5th episode.

I wonder how many seasons it will take to really get interesting - or, if it will even air an entire season. Because personally, I am ready to devote that hour of airtime to something else.

I know.

But we can devote that hour to reading a book or something, and turn the cable box off altogether.

Just because there is nothing better on, doesn't mean we have to watch/support the crap that is on.

And if the bar is continually lowered? What then?

Because that is how it seems to be these days. The really good shows, like Defying Gravity, are canceled after a few shows. Others that are pure garbage stay on for seasons.

I guess that only shows the general mentality of the current audience, I guess. Either that, or it shows what 'the powers that be' want us to watch.

There is another new show coming in mid-November that I hope will be a good remake - The Prisoner.

Hopefully they don't totally screw up that as well. The original series was a work of art.

Perhaps "current generation" isn't the right word. Generation Y? What is the generation now? Z? Millennium?

SG1 and SGA had plot it had drama without the wasted time. So what if alot of the planets had a medieval feel to it (SGA actually had WW2 style civilizations) the idea there was that the Go'auld kept them from advancing (Because technology means turning into the Tae're) maybe you missed that point in the show, which makes sense why youd try to insult SGU's very entertaining predecessors. I didnt like SGA much but atleast that show was better then SGU.

The problem with them getting necessitites is its taken 6 episodes to get just 3 things to survive.......nothing more. They still need food and medicine............will it take another four episodes to fix that. Considering the ship is only 40% powered.............the suicide run into the star didnt even replenish it completely. How nice of the writers to make sure were going to have to live through a lot more episodes like light.  You know I hope they are paying attention. Because ALOT (not just here cause I know of a number of other forums discussing SGU) of the original fanbase is becoming dissillusioned with the SG franchise right now. Alot of people are turning to the older SG1 episodes and opting to spend the hour on HULU watching SG1 rather then spend it watching SGU.

Its already far worse the BSG when it comes to Drama, entire episodes have already been devoted to bitching, crying and love triangles. Scotts a manwhore, Chloe cant wake up and realize shes just as bad, the Sgt, Scott banged in Episode 1 was referred to as Lt. in Episode Light (which means she either got promoted without us knowing or the writers have really shorttem memory) is completely jealous of the attention Chloes getting. Rush cant make up his mind wether hes gonna be useful or just get in the way of the Crew making progress. Greer cant stop trying break things. Eli is just as lazy as he was when he was unemployed. (big surprise). Young is an idiot and out of touch with reality. The lesbian chick, well, she somehow thinks she actually has somekindof say in what goes on even though her role as IOA rep doesnt cover her current situation (usual bs about people with power, they think they have it regardless of where they go) The Medic cant do anything but question herself at every turn. And Colonel Turdbucket back on Earth is out to take over for Young.........Cause somehow hes convinced he can lead better from a billion light years away. (not to mention if the ship is destroyed he can just jump back to his body and continue living)

Not to mention how they made General O'Neil (someone whos always been about doing everything he can to bring someone home, cause thats the Special Forces way to do things) look like he could give two shits wether the Icarus Crew would be coming home or not.

Ya, firefly comes to mind as a good show which was cancled way before it should have been... Then they even killed off half the crew in the movie, making any further attempts at making the show again impossible.

Ok so in another forums I was discussing SGU and the question about the "object that ""broke off"" the ship" at the end of episode 3 kept coming up, many were arguing it was a shuttle from the ship or a piece of the ship. I know I already addressed it here, but simply if you want to see the evidence yourself. On hulu you can actually watch all the episodes yourself and see for yourself that at 42:15 it shows the "object" sitting on the ship not attached other then some docking clamps. It then releases and seperate shields are seen that arent the same as the Destiny's and as well it engages its own thrusters and takes off off screen. Hopefully whoever was wondering what that was will now know that it wasnt debris or one of the Destiny's shuttles but an alien craft.
