During a short break at work today, I picked up a publication that the University of Texas Medical Branch (where I work) puts out every 3 months, and began thumbing through it. One of the headlines, from the medical director nonetheless, was "Happy to Say Goodbye to 2003." He went on to make comments about the 275-person reduction in forces that we've had, EMR being introduced into most of the units (Electronic Medical Record), and other things that could send one into a nervous breakdown.
This led me to ponder what kind of year that I've experienced in 2003. I came to the conclusion that I've definitely had much better years prior to this one. I think the best things that I've had go on this year was my 30 lb weight loss, and taking our kids to DisneyWorld in Orlando. Other than that, it's been pretty much of an emotional roller coaster.
Work has been stressful, and I think that I went through some sort of hormonal-"I'm almost 30" 'change'. Don't even ask....People that I know and work with have been called to go to Iraq, my sister in law's husband (after 19 years of marriage) has decided that he wants to move out of their home and into an apartment. He also decided that there's a woman he works with that he's got "alot in common with" and he'd like to date her. I got more grey hair this year, too. However, it's not something that can't be fixed with a little color. *Phew*
I am thankful that in this year, I've been able to see my children grow older and smarter. My family's healthy and on most days, happy. Now, I'm looking forward to our tax return in February. We're planning on spending the week after Christmas next year in New York City. Hopefully the terror alert won't be so high as it is this year. We shall see.
I hope that everyone's made it through 2003 in one piece! Be safe in your celebrations of the upcoming New Year 2004. Adios for now.
