i don't know why, but that title always felt good to me.
i just had a hamburger at this place. when they set it down in front of me, i thought oh, they already put ketchup on it for me. but no. it was blood. i didn't realize it until i had already taken a few hefty bites. ugh. but i'm trying to think of myself as one of those prehistoric humans before fire. a bloody burger is much more appetizing than a sliver of marrow, don't you think?
big ideas for the week: can we measure the health of a city/town/community effectively without talking about growth? or is growth the only best way? can technology really extend resourecs and materials to make infinite growth possible? Can issues associated with poverty be addressed without addressing economic issues? is it possible to divorce quality of life issues from economic ones? Is there a way to practice development without eventually displacing the poor? how do things like rent control and government ownership of property address this problem? what are the drawbacks of these solutions? Are the benefits conferred by historic preservation available without displacement of the poor? Finally, are zoning laws defensible from an ethical standpoint, or are they solely to benefit the desires of the luxury class? When did i start talking so much like a marxist?
