Chip- That was a good one... I have a few stories about Korean cops, also.
1. I was following a certain E-6 back from Yonsei. There were no plates on her car. I asked her where her plates were and she said they were on her coffee table at home, in Anjung-Ri! I watched a cop pull her to the side in the middle of Seoul and let her go because they couldn't communicate!
2. I was driving Gracie (remember that chunk of crap?) back from Suwon. Now, admittedly, what I did WAS wrong, but.... Anyway. I made an illegal left turn from the wrong lane without a green arrow. There was a cop right at the intersection where you get onto 1. He pulled me to the side and claimed that I ran a red light. It was amazing how quickly all of my training left me. I found myself unable to utter a single word of Korea, or to even understand rudimentary phrases! It was bizarre! We argued in broken English. I would have admitted my mistake if he had charged me with what I actually did!
3. On the way to Osan one morning I noticed a car with the front bumper pushing against a telephone pole. I stopped and there was a driver slumped over the wheel. There was a cop up the street a little bit, so I suggested he may want to check on the driver of this vehicle. The engine was running, it was winter, and he wasn't moving. The cop said "Don't worry, he's just drunk." WTF?
