I play GC2 only once every couple of months, and it's about time for my current game. So I check the website for latest info and patches, and learn that we're now up to a snazzy 2.0 to go with GC2/DA/TotA, all of which I own. Okay, so I come to learn that the 2.0 update is not available from a Stardock download, or from any internet download. Just an aside here Stardock, you're blazing a new trail in customer friendliness by making your updates ONLY available through some new download system that your longtime fans don't have. That trail you're blazing, it's not going in a good direction.
Okay, so I resign myself to downloading Impulse, but I can't get it to install. I get two popups. The first reads as follows:
Unable to download installer files - Error IMPD01-300
The Impulse setup program is unable to download updated files from the Internet to complete the installation process. Please check your Internet connection and firewall settings and retry setup. The Impulse installation will now exit. Note: You can also visit www.ImpulseDriven.com to download an updated version of the Impulse setup program.
The second pop-up is almost identical to the first, except that it starts off by saying: Unable to download installer files - Error IMPD02-300.
My internet connection is obviously fine, hence my ability to post this. I have the basic XP firewall, which I tried disabling, no luck. I tried shutting down various aspects of my virus scanner (something I DON'T like doing.) Look, I've downloaded, installed, and patched a gazillion files, games, and videos on my computer. I just patched Fallout 3 the other day. I watch videos on Netflix. My internet connection is not causing me a problem, nor is my firewall.
As for visiting impulsedriven.com to download an updated version of the Impulse setup program, I thought that's what I had just done. I don't see any link of note on that site except the big blue "Download Impulse Now!" button.
I'm a plug-and-play sorta guy. I like to come home from work, click a button, and play my game of choice. Please let me do that.
If this should go in the Impulse forums, please let me know and I'll cut/paste it there. I posted it here because I frankly don't even know anything about Impulse or want Impulse except for my need to download it to play my game of choice of the day. I posted here because, unlike Impulse, GalCiv 2 made a good first impression on me...sorry for the rant, obviously things like this tick me off a bit...
