I started with the Steel on August 20ish (truly can't remember the date) and I have been loving it. The road trips have been showing me the better part of the midwest and even some of the plains.
My 1st two weeks weren't all that great. It took me awhile to get used to working for a small athletic team and not for a school with multiple teams. We went through ordering supplies and it took me by surprise at how little supplies we actually needed to order.
Working with an amateur sports team has been an interesting experience. They are a very close group and take their hockey very seriously. It's quite a change of dedication for me since I cam from a high school where some people only lasted a few days with a team and turn over was high.
We have had a rash of bad injuries, ranging from a fracture tibial plateau to a ruptured appendix. It has effected our game to such a degree that we have lost a lot of games recently. Hopefully we should be able to come back from these injuries and become a stronger team.
And to a more serious note:
Last Wednesday I was hit in the eye with a hockey puck. It was a freak accident and I don't hold a grudge against the person who did it. It was a direct hit to the eye which has left me with a fracture to the floor of the orbital rim and what's called macualr damage. Basically it means the the macula has been damaged but there is no actual tear/laceration/etc... The bleeding and swelling both inside and outside of my eye has healed and my eyesight seems to be slowly healing. I will never have complete vision in my eye again, but my left eye seems to be compensating for the lose. I actually put a contact in today and my side to side vision is normal but my distance vision is still non existant. I see what could basically be described as a funnel effect as I look farther away.
I have been cleared to return to work this coming Monday and also to begin learning to drive again. It is going to be interesting re-learning how to drive again.
Well, that brings me up to date on things.
I truly am on top of the world working for this team. This has been a chance of a lifetime landing this job and I hopefully doing a good job at it. I can't wait to get back at it.
