Jesse Ventura Endorses Kerry, Blogic BS's a Little

Ex-governor Ventura was joined in his endorsement by Agnus, another independent governor from the late 1990s - early 2000s.

A few prominent Republicans who've endorsed Kerry:

Lee Iacocca, former Chrysler Chairman
William Milliken, former Republican Governor of Michigan
Marlow Cook, former Republican Senator from Kentucky

There are very few equivalent endorsements going the other direction. The only governor/senator level Democrat supporting Bush is Zell Miller, unless I've forgotten someone.

As I've previously indicated, Bush successfully rallied his base in the final two debates, especially the third. That's made his national polling numbers somewhat stronger this week than last. On the other hand, Bush has actually lost ground in the battleground states. It appears that Bush is gaining his strength in the red states -- that is, in states that were already going to vote for Bush. Kerry is weaker in the blue states than Bush is in the red states, but Kerry has gained votes over the last week in the swing states (which, to be consistent, are called the purple states, I guess).

This is consistent with voter surveys that were done after the debates: Republicans and Democrats both rallied to their candidates, but a significantly larger percentage of undecided voters throught Kerry won the third debates than thought Bush won, and that was following similar sentiments regarding the first two presidential debates.

The conventional wisdom during the campaign has been that whichever candidate can win two of the three states of Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania will win the election. It now appears that Pennsylvania will go for Kerry. There is some talk that Bush might try to win by taking Florida and then cobbling together the votes of most of the smaller swing states, such as New Hampshire, Iowa, etc.

Also, as always, people are speculating about whether Bush has an October Surprise in mind, and what it would be. He's scheduled to vacation in Crawford this weekend (I think on Sunday), and there's some buzz that he might be planning a trip to Iraq. You may remember he used that same misdirection for his Thanksgiving trip to Iraq, with Laura and his father shown waiting in Texas, even as Bush was being secretly flown across the Atlantic.
