Why do Tec suck some much in Military ?

I'm Always Either Vasari or Advent But when ever i attack people that play tec they kinda suck and the tec ships really suck. My Vasari or Advent fleet always seem to role right over these tec players with minimal loses. I really think the Tec ships need to be buffed up a bit.

i play TEC most of the time and if you use the right ships you can counter fleets of any type so if they have alot of bombers and fighters make some flak frigits etc. wouldnt object to some buffing though.

The idea is that TEC's economy will allow them to outnumber/outproduce the enemy. If the ships got buffed and the economy remained the same, it would be unfair for the TEC

Tec has a wonderfull startup economy. Once you get 2 Civilian research posts, You get +1.3 (Increasing By 0.1 for each planet) credits a second.

If you have 10 planets, you get 2.3 Credits a second Each! Thats 23 Credits a second, if that isnt enough $ to outnumber your foes I dont know what is.

In the storyline, the TEC are Traders and have only 10 years to build, research, and deploy a full-scale military.

10 years, thats plenty of time to make a really kick ass military, considering how much resources they have. But 10 years is not enough time to get great tech.

not really if you consider how long the other races have had to build up their military. the Vasari have over 1000 years of military build up. and the advent have super powerful weapons because of their psi power. 10 years just can't make a fleet that can mach either of those

I was playing the 1.09 as tec (don't remember if it was like this before) but I so kicked ass as tec against vasari on one side and advent on the other (felt like the i was living the story). Now, I do agree that the tec ships aren't as strong as the others, but they don't suck. You have to have the right mix and make sure you research or else you're done for. Then again, I did do most the fighting on my planets. Still, as long as you don't just do lrm's or HC (which is still good), you won't do that badly.

jdoe knows what i mean if you dont adapt then your dead. but most fights are on my planets except when i capture one which then has to be defended. the only problem is that you cant build defences which will protect the planet if there is an atack of any size then i have to scramble the fleet imediatly to protect it so i wouldnt say improveing the defences would unbalance the game. plus the ai dosnt seem to make that many defences.

This has been discussed before, but I still say the races are all the same. The fact that TEC has trade with 2 reserach stations and it takes the Advent 3 is a pretty minor difference in my opinion. The ships are all mostly equivalent, and it all evens out in the end.

I play random race selection 100% of the time, use similar strategies regardless of race, and win about 4:1 more than I lose online.

I agree the TEC ships are undergunned.

I've been looking at the spec files, and for a trading race, there isnt that much difference between all of them. TEC should have a definite trading advantage and they dont.

The argument for being able to build more ships doesnt wash. At some point you will reach the fleet cap, and if you are in a large game, protecting more than one planet with sizable fleets, an enemy who isnt doing that can hit you with everything they have and there is no ability to outnumber them. Now, if the TEC got 25% more capital ships and fleet size, then maybe that argument would hold. But they dont, since all are the same.

Protecting block points requires some planning. You need to figure out where a battle will be faught, and have multiple repair towers in place, and ensure your fleet stays in the protection area. Dont use Gauss popguns, use the points to put in more hangers and repair towers. Then garrison the planet with light carriers so you have about 30 squadrons or more. Put in Heavy Cruisers for interception and flak frigates to take out enemy fighters.

You need to upgrade your capital ships as the battle goes on. And its essential to do all the ship research as fast as you can to give yourself every improvement you can get.

Most of that doesnt help when your attacking though.

If a planet has a Nano Weapon Jammer, you take that out FIRST. Throw everything you have at it and take losses to kill it asap if you have to. Until you do, your toast as your weapons are basically neutralised. If you know in advance the planet has one, then plan your exit vector to bring you to in at a place with an open line to it. Use a suicide recon if you need to find out where it is.

Likewise the Advent Antimatter recharger. That device will continually recharge the capital ships so they can use their special weapons against you more often. That is also a huge advantage.

Tactics on the battlefield are everything, as is having all the right ships in the right quantities with you in the right place.

The TEC is by its nature at a disadvantage, and I'm modding to correct that.

But you also have to maximise its strengths, and have strategy in place to allow you to survive. It also helps if you choose senarios that allow you to defend better, such as less and shorter phase lines. Less attack vectors at you, distinct choke points to hide behind.

True. However, as I said before, TEC has the economy to outproduce the other races. Getting trade ports at 2 civic research stations gives TEC an early head start, while the huge bonuses to trade in RESEARCH give them an end game advantage (in economy at least).

Even if your fleet gets demolished, if you have the economy and the ship production speed research, you can pump out another fleet in minutes, which is a huge advantage if you are on defense and the fight is close enough for your ships to get there on time.

The ONLY thing that is unbalanced against TEC is 1.05 RA where they cannot get a fleet up as quick as Vassari.
If TEC are losing to the other races, then your fleet is either too small, is lacking research upgrade or is missing certain ships from the mix.
It IS possible to win with TEC in 1.05 - I have done it.

Exactly. Production is what counts. I've been in LAN games where I had two planets, each with three frigate factories, and I was pumping out fleets like nobodies business. Every three minutes, I had another group of 20 HC's, plus the few extras from scattered factories. Money isn't a problem late game for TEC, and if you research the production bonuses, neither are resources.
