John Kerry: Going the Distance

I do a lot of my thinking while jogging in the morning -- up 1st Ave to East 59th St, west to Columbus Circle, and down Broadway to Union Square -- which has the strange result that a lot of my thinking is linked to the music to which I'm listening.

Part of my current rotation is Rocky's "Going the Distance", which plays during the climatic fight seat at the end of the movie. As any fan of the movie knows, Rocky isn't focused on actually winning the fight -- his self doubt keeps him from dreaming of that -- he just wants to make it through the fifteen rounds without embarrassing himself. He wants to go the distance.

Rocky's beaten to a pulp during the fight, dragging himself off the canvas repeatedly just to show that he can make it until the end. His girlfriend hides in the changing room, having her own reasons to be terrified of violence. Slowly she steps out of the shadowy entrace on the arena, captivated by the image of Rocky and his opponent, staggering around, the crowd forgetten to them as they both struggle to last to the closing bell.

There are only nineteen days left in this election, and Bush and Kerry are beating each other to a pulp; and I'm powerless to make a difference. As we move into the final days, all I can do is watch and be amazed at the battle being fought by these two men. Everything seems to be fading away as election day approaches.

But at least this time, the Democratic candidate is giving as good as he gets. Gore may have won more votes, but it never felt like his heart was in the race. Not only did Gore not go the distance, I'm not even sure he ever showed up. When Republicans went on the attack, it felt like Gore just stood there like a dope, and I watched appalled.

Not Kerry. Not the Democrats. Not this year. They're fighting back, and Kerry's hitting for every time Bush swings. Win or lose, Kerry's going to take the fight to the last second.

John Kerry is going the distance.

He certainly went the distance with that below the belt remark about Cheney's daughter. Edward's wife today just made it worse accusing Cheney's wife of being ashamed of her daughter. My apologies for that.

Speaking of the whole hubris, how many US Soldiers are stationed and policing the Kurdish Portion of the North of Iraq?

Fighting back? Is that what you call it?

I call it vicious, treasonous, seditious, brutal, anti-American, Stalinist character assassination disguised as "debate" and "freedom of speech".

You Democrats can dish it out, but you sure as hell can't take it in return.

President Bush is a MILLION times the GENTLEMAN that John Kerry could EVER be.

The ONLY way that John Kerry will "go the distance" is with the help of the massive VOTER FRAUD machine that the Democratic Party already has in place in ALL of the battleground states.

The Democrats have proven that they will say anything and do anything to regain their POLITICAL POWER. They will sacrifice the SOVEREIGNTY of the United States in the name of POWER.

This election will be decided in the courts, just like the 2000 election, and hopefully with the same results.

Despite the BEST EFFORTS of the Democratic Party to steal ANOTHER election, they will once again fail. The very survival of the United States Of America depends on it.

If by some miracle Kerry STEALS this election through voter fraud and and with the help of some activist left wing federal judge, CIVIL WAR will erupt in the United States. TRUST ME on that.

I think it is a credit to the politicians but a weakness to the system that the political "season" runs several years through primaries, conventions, and the campaign (proper). Bot men deserve consideration for not taking their talents and staying home (where they would undoubtedly be happier).

I heard the quote on the radio today, from the "horse's mouth", so to speak (Edward's wife).

The heffer stated that Mrs. Cheney was ashamed about her daughter's sexuality.

Everytime I see Mrs. Edwards, I just have to wonder how Mr. Edwards has sex with her. Does he roll her around in flour until he can find the wet spot?

I agree about the statement of Edwards being totally inappropiate and done to cover Kerry's statement, where her husband was a gentleman and respectfull towards Mr. Cheney his wife's speech was awfull. Here's the link: http://apnews.myway.com//article/20041014/D85NFO181.html

Totally imappropiate for her to judge a mother's relationship with her daughter. I feel that Cheney daughter's sexual preference is between her and the lord and it's none of our concern, and not a topic of discussion, I would think we can respect their right to privacy about this issue.

Disagreeing with Edward's wife for what she said yes, attacking her because of her weight no, I disagree with that. A person should be judged upon character issues and not weight. As far as what they do in bed, it's another issue I would gladly respect their rights to privacy on.

Here's what I wrote in another thread:
If Cheney's daughter had Parkison's disease would you think it okay for Kerry to bring her up as an example of why we need to have federally funded fetal stem cell research? I would find that equally distasteful.
First of all, being gay isn't a disease, and I think it says something people are making that analogy. The relevant comparison would be if Cheney's daughter were black and open about having a white husband -- but the campaign kept him hidden away (which was true until a little over a week ago) -- and Bush supported a constitutional ban on interracial marriage. Also, if Mary Cheney were an active campaigner for Bush/Cheney (which she is), while the Republican National Committee sent out leaflets warning people that a Democratic victory would mean blacks could marry whites.

Mary Cheney has been very active both in this election and the last. She is a public participant in a political campaign where gay marriage is an important enough issue that it's been brought up by the moderators in two debates.
