9-5 Gaming: Rock Band notation.
Recently thanks to people talking to me about Rock Band (and marriage counseling oddly enough) I stumbled upon this. I want to point out fundamental and practical flaws in this product.
If you don't know this is the Guitar Hero 4 Drum set. Not to nitpick but the title is Guitar Hero still isn't it? Anyway let's get to the parts we likely can all agree on.
#1 Note that unlike the Rock Band drum set you lose one pad for a new Cymbal pad. Note that both are up high and centered, right where most of us would use our eyes to look at the TV. Here is hoping they are adjustable.
#2 The pedal has no visible way to secure itself. If you are anything like me when you use your kick you sometimes apply too much forward thrust and thus "thrust" your drum set slowly toward your TV set in an electronic dance step called the "No longer can reach yellow and blue Mombo." Perhaps there is an anchor but I don't see it here, nor the means that it would work on common house hold floors.
#3 I already have a drum set I can't use with this game. More so I already have a drum set taking up space in my living room. I will not tolerate another one and I am likely not alone in this.
#4 Downloadable content. Rock Band is brilliant that not only have I purchased their game but I have invested in it as well. I have multiple downloaded and paid for songs. Sadly I have done this to another save card as I lack the extra funds to pick up the Xbox hard drive (since the first died terribly). I'm not going to another game that is likely not to get content like this, and even if they did am I just going to buy the same songs yet again?
One of the big arguments of the GH series is that it is more challenging and to many opinions that the key placements are better selected. I don't really feel that way but I can easily see how one would. Regardless of how you feel about the two choices it is hard to deny the logic that in the practical sense this product feels rushed and awkward. Despite any flaws Rock Band might not notice this product land on the market.
"I certainly think it takes the edge off 'Rock Band'," said Mike Hickey, an analyst with Janco Partners. "What's 'Rock Band' going to do now, add a flute and banjo?" -PCMAG.com
No I think they are just going to keep doing what they are doing.
I could be wrong though.
My Chi - doubts it
