Playing at work and at Home?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I didn't see it in the posts I perused.

I have GalCiv2 DL 1.4 at home and SD Central at home and at work.  I'm downloading DL1.5 at work as we speak in the hopes that I can play a game on my breaks or while waiting for databases on other computers to churn and such. 

 

My questions are about metaverse compatibility. 

1.  Can I start a game at work and finish it at home as long as I take the MY Games folder with me?

2.  Will there be a problem with having 1.4 at home and 1.5 at work?  (Should I upgrade my 1.4 at home?)

2. Very possibly, you should definitely have the same version on both.

I used to do this occasionally, then I went and took a promotion, and that's the end of that.

I would copy the My Games folder to a jump drive and shuttle it back and forth. One thing I had to watch out for was the differences in screen resolutions between the two machines. I kept two pref.ini files in another folder and switched those out after I copied to each machine. Other than that, I always kept the versions the same, and had no problems.

Actually while this hasn't necessarily been exhaustively tested. I have posted save games from DL v1.4x and had folks load them and continue play successfully in DL v1.5. I've also gone the other direction where the game was created in DL v1.5 and a turn or two was actually executed under DL v1.4x and then finished under DL v1.5 and then successfully submitted to the metaverse.

Of course the reason this was done was to for one person to check out another persons game and they just happened to have diferent versions. Clearly the safest thing is to have the same version in both places but if there is some reason that isn't desirable then it should work out. Even so you might want to test it with a short game just to make sure.

I thought at work you had to WORK and not play, i must have got this job thing all wrong.
