How do I set the difficulty level?

How do I set the difficulty level for Sins? All I see are options for low-normal-high resources/structures and slow-normal-fast play speed. I haven't installed the 1.04 update yet as I am not sure I want all the changes in it. Plus I want to review my last couple of games.

next to each of the AI players is a chevron symbol "^", that lets you set them to easy, normal, hard, unfair difficulty.

You should read the manual.
