I have some suggestions for Sins of a Solar Empire. I dont know if it has to be patched or in an expasion.
I would like to see, that the Planets play a bigger role in the game. It would be good, when there would be more information about them, like on a Info card, in which you could see Diameter, Tempertaure and what types natural desasters can occour. This information can be used to determine how you want to develop your planet. For exmaple, when the planet has a temperature of - 200 celsius, you would know that you should rather concentrate on logistics and tactical development, then population. people on this planet can freeze to death, without enough shelters and a natural desaster, like a blizzard, can decrease the populaion as well. This gives the game alot more stragety and decisions. You would have to not only concentarte on your army and coquering new planets, but also make decions how the planet should be developed and be ready for a natural desaster.
Another upgrade for planets, would be some defence units, which you can actually built on the planet. This will give the planet more defence against capital ships attacking it. You could see lasers and beams coming from the planet.
The most important planet of cource is the Homeplanet. A good system would be a inteface, similar to the Homecity in Age of Empires 3. From there iy is better to control trading and resource income, as well as sending a exploring team and you could see what is going on, on the planet.
The Star in every Solar System should also have some influence in the game. For example Solar Storms could destroy nearby ships, in the case of a battle in the stars gravity field.
Another Idea is that each race has 1 powerful "super" Unit, that is so huge and powerful that its special ability is to destroy a Planet. Why always conquering a Planet, when the new Info card for the planet, could tell you " no this planet has no use for my economy.. it is too small and the temperature is not right" so you decide to use the special ability of this super unit. (the explosion could look similar to Star Wars Empire at War, when the death star destroys a planet) After the Planet is destroyed, it leaves valuable treasues behind: some astroids for mining or even a moon, which is a smaller sized rock, bigger then a astroid. Of cource there are risks of destroying a Planet. A black hole could be created and all nearby units would be sucked in. This will prevent the player, to destroy every single planet in the solar system. The player has to give it some though first. The Unit, however, would cost a huge amount of metal and crystal, like 20 000 and alot of research must be conducted first. The unit should also have a weakness, so that it is not indestructable.
This update would also improve decisions, because not every planet is the right one for you.
Another thing is that the Planets are all the same size. When planets have different diameters, you should see the difference in size.
