Question about AI spending

I recently completed my first game on Noraml difficulty and I notice that although each AI was individually beaten down to extinction, they all died with HUGE sums of cash, metal and crystals! Is this a function of the AI not working so hot, or the easier difficulty.

I know it is not that it couldn't build fleets because the last AI had the capacity up until the end (that was the only AI I really took note of spending habits).

The AI does some really weird stuff at the moment, and I'm expecting a pretty serious overhaul in the patch (due fairly soon).

... on other threads, stardock & ironclad guys have frimly declared that the AI players did not receive any cheat resource bonuses ...  if so, it makes solving the OP's enigma even more difficult ...

Not really (IMO). First, look at even Hard AI's buildings at almost any state of the game - they rarely use even half of their building slots, and frquently fail to research heaps of their possible techs, if they even build their labs. Second, these are Normal AIs, who get some "inefficiencies" built in.

Hey thanks for the feedback. I was just wondering if there was a known reason for the big assett hoarde the AI was holding when it lost. I never thought it was a cheat, but if it is just an AI ineffeciency I am sure it will be addressed with each patch.
